I have started a new post as I hijacked scoots posting on his sanguinea.
I have been away and thankfully hadn't missed my sanguinea blooming. This is this year's seedling and my first ever brug to bloom. The weather has been terrible here, but it seems to like it more than me.
This is the plant, over 6' now with 5 buds, 4 of which are beginning to bloom. Photo taken today.
sanguinea blooming in Ireland
Whoo- Hooo !
Congrats on your upcoming blooms.
More pics ............Please
Sangs sure try your patience , don't they ?
Congrats Sue. Hope to see pictures of it in full bloom.
Congratulations Prudence. You have a beautiful plant.
Congrats on your blooms.
How long has it been inside? The green green of the leaves looks so great next to the yellow walls. Can't wait to see it all in bloom.
kell...looks like it is a yellow stucco wall outside to me! Yes, it is so nice and green though. Beautiful plant!
Wow! Looky there! Congratulations!
LOL Margie. Another duh moment for me. I read that topic "sanguinea blooming in Ireland" as blooming INSIDE! LOL. I thought it odd she had that other pot of outside plants inside also. And the walls and windows did look a bit rough. LOL
Kell, that's funny...I just did the same thing on another post...completely didn't read the title or the first line of the post! Must be an age related thing! as I was certainly not in a hurry!
Kell - I had to laugh! Yes it is definitely the outside of the house. The brug is in part shade but interestingly the first bud coming out is in the deepest shade.
That you all for your comments and I'll keep you posted. Weather is terrible here - hasn't stopped raining for weeks!
Sue
That is a beautiful, healthy plant. Love the leaves - so velvety. I had one, grown from seed, and it melted in my heat. LindaSC
Beautiful healthy green serrated leaves and I love that bud with a deep color beginning to show! Can't wait to see it when it's fully open.....don't keep us in suspense!
5............ ! ! !
Holey-Moley You must be in the right place where you live. This is great. I could send you some pollen.

pru , you have mail
Very pretty bloom.
Cool bloom Sue.
Sue,
* fingers crossed for pollen *
That has to be one of the healthiest looking potted Sangs I have seen. Don't change whatever you are or are not doing.
Your bloom is beautiful , such a dark rich red.

Wow, what a beautiful, healthy brug and the yellow of your house really sets her off!!!
The blossom looks like it will be very dark, congrats!!!!!
One last pic of the sanguinea with 3 of the flowers open (a mini flush?)
Thank you for all your words of encouragement. I've really enjoyed growing this one!
Scoot - pollen arrived today. Many thanks for that. Now the hardest bit is finding a day that will stay dry for a few hours!!
Sue
Would love to see your mini flush.
1 week is all it took, I mailed it last Saturday. Kewl !
That is lovely. so cool to see your blooms. congratulations!!!
such a healthy plant! I love it.
Sue -- it is beautiful! Sure does love your climate :)
Sue, they are such a unique bloom. Are you pollinating any of them to get sang pods as well as pods from Scoot's pollen?
Thanks everyone!
Yes Shirley I am! No luck so far. When I try to put Scoots pollen on, the pollen from my sanguinea goes all over the place!! Also the pollen that I am putting on the flower seems very dry . I am aiming the pollen at the indents on the stamens. Any tips would be appreciated.
Here's hoping!!
Sue
What an unusual and beautiful brug, I know you are thrilled!!! Those leaves and blossoms are so different and so healthy, wow!!
I don't know if it would work, but maybe when you get a new bloom that isn't quite open yet, you could remove the anthers before the pollen gets dry and fluffy. Then pollinate. At least you wouldn't have the sang pollen on the stigma. Just a thought.
What a beautiful plant, I love it.
Thank you Shirley. I had a look at Brug hybridizing 101 and it's starting to make perfect sense!! I can see the sigma which is tucked quite far up from the stamens. Do I have to wait for it to come down further or can I do as you suggest and take the anthers off now?
Sue
I think you can take the anthers off anytime without hurting anything as long as you don't accidently grab the stigma. I think Monika says she pollinates on the first full day open, but I do know that pollen will take the day before also, but it requires tearing the flower a bit to get into it.
Just to make sure, are you pollinating the brug, as well as collecting pollen???
I'm just trying to pollinate the brug but I'm a complete notice at brugs and pollination!
Sue
