i think the posting is confusing. i was not aware that sase offers were anything but a self-addressed
envelope with enough postage to mail the seeds back. asking for more money/stamps is definitely not
allowed on gardenweb. when you mentioned .49 cents, i was thinking that would be the cost of mailing the seeds - duh, on me!
if you are going to share seeds, do so. if you want to sell them, don't do it on gardenweb. Spike is very strict about that.
Would I be wrong?? Help!
I do want to share seeds and have done so..above and beyond. But when someone does it as much as I do. It can become expensive and time consuming. Right now I'm held up because I ran out of labels today. So to fulfill the other 22 envelopes I have left. I'll need to go buy more labels and bags. I did not and do not feel as though sending a $.49 stamp is selling seeds. My seeds are much more expensive then $.49. As far as Gardenweb..I have entirely too many people who have stolen plants from me over there. Including the Drama that goes on there.
kim,
why not ask for $1 or $2 and tell people that you are using that to cover the postage, envelopes, etc. i think that is clear and can be understood by all. just my 2cents. (of course, this would not help you out on gardenweb).
i have found that no matter how clearly i think i have written a posting, there is always someone who does not interpret the posting as i intended. it can be frustrating.
Now that's the truth! I hear ya..LOL LOL
kim,
i have an excess of seeds bags in 2 sizes. if you would like some, i would be happy to share some with you. i have more than i could possibly ever use as i rarely collect seeds anymore.
jean
Ahhhhhh...That is very sweet. I will donate them to the cause. I save most seeds to give them away. Thanks so much for your kind offer.
Kim,
I won't say where I work but we have a printer that wastes 3 large labels for everyone it prints. These labels are like the one I used on your envelope in our recent trade. They are about 3x5 in and set up for dot matrix printer but I have been able to use them in my Lexmark inkjet printer. I do bring home the left overs to recycle and would be more than happy to send you a good supply of them at no charge. You can hand write on them if you prefer.
Jan...
Jan, Yes Yes Yes...Thanks so much!
Well after reading this thread I had to take a good look at myself. Learned a lot and will make adjustments to the way I do seed trading. Thanks for all the imput as to the way to do it right. Ted
Great Kim
I'll get them out to you this weekend.
Jan...
Kim, I love the quote of Eleanor Roosevelt's that goes something like "No one can make you feel inferior but yourself". What I mean is you KNOW (and GOD knows) what you do comes sincerely from the heart. You shouldn't let this experience take the joy of what you do away from you. I know from all the threads I love to read at DG that you are a well respected and admired friend here at DG and I don't even know you!
I think it's very fair that you stick to your resolution of not sending seeds to those who don't adhere to your requirements set in advance. If you send a courtesy email to remind them of the requirement, that would be going above and beyond, in my opinion.
~Good luck, Angela
Ohhhh Angela, Your words were inspiring and I needed to hear that today. Thanks so much!
Kim
Kim:
You are the soul of DG,
Antonio
Weezingreens, you have such a great attitude about the trades. I'm sure the biggest percentage of the trades we all do are good. I have never had a bad experience, but I can't imagine an experience so bad that I would be able to quit now that I have started. Trading seeds, or offering freebies and just knowing I can share what I love gives me great joy.
Same here, plant_fiend. Trading and giving seeds away should be enjoyable. If it isn't, there are other ways to share with gardeners. We can add info to the Plants Database or post pictures of our plants or offer our expertise in other ways.
I remember how excited I was when I discovered Dave's Garden. I wanted to share all my gardening experiences with everyone here... a mixed blessing I am sure! LOL! After I got involved in seed trading, I realized I was much more dedicated to sending them out than receiving them.
I can understand Kim's frustration, and I think we could all work together to make sharing seeds as pain free, as enjoyable, as possible. Those that have offered some of the needed supplies here are helping to make the seed sharing project possible.
Jean, I received your wonderful package of supplies today. Thank you soooo much. This will help me with sharing more seeds with our gardening friends
:-D
