Going Crazy over Moon Vine Flowers

Midway, NC(Zone 7b)

My one vine started spitting out flowers over a week ago, but last night it put out lots of them. I am sure going to have that vine, and others, if I can learn how to prepare the seed to start my own plants. I will try to post a picture of it. Woody ---- Whoops, where did the picture go? Will try again in another post.

A Picture this time? If not, I shall go back to school and learn how to do it properly. Woody

Any recommendations on how to ge the seeds started? I have tried the last two years with no luck. I nick and soak like morning glories. I think maybe birds or slugs steal them.

I nicked and soaked mine, and started them indoors once they had sprouted. Put them out in the yard once temps had warmed last Spring. I had nearly 100% germination.....this was all probably beginners luck as this is my first year with them. They are big and beautiful, but not a single flower bloom yet :(

i just get those little peat pellet thingys you soak in water plant the seed. dont even nick it. keep in plastic bag in sunny window keep moist and mine sprout all the time. you can start them in wet paper towels in a baggy in a window too. i dont nick them in those either.

every time i put them in water after nicking them they rot.

as for squirells and things i plant mine in pots. this way they are protected until big enough to survive with out me looking at them all the time.

Thanks for the good advice, rikerbear and imzadi. I'll keep trying, just got to have these in my garden eventually!

I have never nicked these - but soak and start in pots and then transplant out after they sprout. I've had excellent germination with these seeds. When harvesting, make sure to let them dry on the vine before picking. The outside shell on the seeds should 'crunch' easily between your fingers before you pick them. If you pick them and they are soft, they simply won't dry or store properly.
