Which Pyracantha Please?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

I'd like to cover a not enormous stretch of wall with hard pruned Pyracantha, to give a good show of blossom and berries - and perhaps provide a support for annual climbers such as Black eyed Susan or Morning Glory in between.
Please can anyone recommend the best species to use in this way?

Well, I don't know if this helps or not but the Pyracantha we have down here is real bright red and it pushes the boards out in about 3 years (basket weave pattern fence). I think if it was pruned and trained better and was on a picket style fence we would have had better results. This was at my Mothers house so I had no control on either of these factors.

Thanks very much George
I've bought one called Red Pillar, so we'll see how it goes :)

All of the 'American Indian' series pyracantha will top at about 9 feet (3m) and are all resistant to the dreaded scab and fireblight. Cultivars include Navaho, Pueblo, Teton, Mohave and Apache. I don't know if these American introductions are available in France.

Thanks Tod. I looked for those and didn't find any - but they may well be here.
Anyway I'll see how the one I bought goes :)
