Hi, I planted a Bradford Pear tree this Spring and I looked at it yesterday and it has blossoms on it. I think it has the seasons mixed up! Isn't is supposed to blossom in the Spring? Has this ever happened to anyone else? I wasn't sure what to do, but so far I just nipped the blossoms off. Has anyone got any ideas here?
Flowering Bradford Pear tree in the Fall!
I do know they bloom in the Spring. Our town has them planted all along Main St. My viburnum bloomed this Spring but even now it is putting out tiny little flowers. I think it's been a weird Summer. Don't know what to tell you. I don't suppose it will hurt it.
Thanks for the input. Sorry it has taken so long to get back, it's a little crazy here right now. Too much to do before the cold weather!
Know what you mean about so much to do before cold weather. I see you are in ID. I'd love to live out that way. We lived in WA for two years.
Hi Pyrola5,
Sorry life got kind of busy here and I didn't have time to get on the site. It is lovely here in Idaho, but PA is very nice too. I only visited there once but it was so green. And I do love green. I love the outdoors better though and that's why I am here. Mountains, high desert, forests. We are lucky and where I live I can ride my 4 wheelers straight out the back door for miles and not bump into anyone. Any other direction though and I do find people!
Sounds like my kind of place. People here have a hard time riding there four wheelers-- lot of places they aren't allowed to ride. I don't have one but SIL and DGS do. The gardens are pretty well done. I am hoping to plant three shrubs before the snow really sets in-- we've had a little. I'm afraid my neighbor's rabbits will kill them, tho. They've been eating my plants all Summer and have started on the bark of my dogwood and viburnum. I think I will get some liquid fence or fox urine. Goodnight
What shrubs are you putting in? I planted 3 blue spruce last weekend. We don't have a rabbit problem here because the coyotes or badger get them (unfortunately they get the cats too) but I have a very bad gopher and whistle pig (ground squirrel) problem. They must be too fast for the coyotes. And as we are backed up to all that BLM land our green oasis here looks like dinner to them.
We don't have any snow yet, but it is cold! At least for us. Yesterday's high was 42. Brrr. I was raised in Illinois so I do know what cold is and I also know what it is like to not be able to get away from people. That's why we love it out here. But people are moving here so very fast. Mostly from CA. So I will enjoy this while I can. Thanks, take care.
Hi, I planted a fetterbush and a beautyberry. My Oakleal hydrangea didn't come, don't know why. We have coyotes here, too. The wild rabbits have never bothered my plants even tho we had one around all one Winter. The neighbor's tame ones are all over. I see they venture into the woods so I suppose coyotes will get them. We also have wildcats and panthers. Earlier in the Fall a lot of hawks were swooping around but they have moved on. A couple of weeks and the bear will go to bed, then we can feed the birds. They tear up the feeders and take the corn if they are around. Most places seem to fill up eventually. When I was a kid, we didn't have many neighbors and they weren't too close. Now that area has really filled up with houses. Have a goodnight.
sunniyskies,
You must be having weather as erratic as we are. I have a Bradford Pear as well, and while it has not flowered in the fall, I do have a small Magnolia that flowered both in April and October of this year. I believe I planted it in March of this year, so in both of our cases our trees have some adjusting to do. So, who knows!?!
Hi Steve FortWorth,
Yes the weather has been erratic. We are mostly down to just plain cold here though. There has been heavy fog in the evenings and mornings here and there.
If I wasn't so worried about the tree I would enjoy the flowers, but wondering if I will have to replant next spring kind of takes the joy out of it!
I really love being able to ask questions and help where I can with Dave's Garden. There just aren't many people I know who care very much about gardening whether it be veggies, trees or flowers ect... and I am learning from people who want to help and many who have alot of knowledge. This is great fun.
