I recieved a cutting for "Orange Crush" along with another Brug I ordered.
I've tried searching this site for information, but can't find anything.
If you can help me out, it will be greatly appreciated.

Kell I made a boo boo lol, meant to add 'Crush' on there but I was in the 'orange' mode LOL....I absolutely love the name 'Mango Crush', sounds yummy too! I bet she is too and with a 'to die for' aroma.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't do that ............... I've got to feed my addiction ... but I knew what the one I ordered looked like, the Mango Crush was a freebie. Sounds like it's a beauty.

Shoot, I thought it was just recently released. Does anyone know when it did get the thumbs up for release?
I had read that it was only released in April of this year.

None of us can, Shirley. I had to go check and make sure of what I'd read.. LOL
I released that one in July, I had not seen it bloom again till then, everything I had cut from the flowering region had been sent out for evaluations. So not wanting to release something that had not cleared evaluations I held it, and a couple more. Very few of the people I sent cuttings to, took me serious and let me know how they were doing. They went on to use them for their own hybridizing and trading material. Thus holding up the releasing.
I didn't know that Dreamcatcher was released though. Susie sent alot of plants out to friends that she had the only one of during her move because of the fear that she would lose them, and then they would be gone forever. Dreamcatcher was a seed grown out by Susie, Hybridized by Monika, along with Simone and Pink Pearl. Dreamcatcher was destroyed by Susie, because she thought it unworthy of release. Eternity was another one that hit the market before release. Susanne is not released, I sent her to a few people for evaluations, and to one brug-crazy person like myself, just because I wanted her to have her, she is such a good good brug Mommy!

Simone is not released. It is Monika's seedling, a triple peach that smells wonderful but so far has bloomed with deformed flowers. We were wanting to watch it and see if it did better in other climates or if it got better with age. I sent several out for evaluation but only a few have told me how Simone is doing for them.
Now I'm confused.....
Did I get something that wasn't really theirs to give? Or should I be suspicious that it really isn't Mango Crush?
I've emailed "privately" with one of you guys about where I got it but don't want to post it here at least just yet.
I'm also curious about Dreamcatcher .............. I thought it was a registered variety, not one that had been discarded.
I'm really not clear on how all this works ........... the "rules" about registering, selling etc... I guess all I cared about was if it looked like something I would "love".
Tracey, are you sure that the people were clear that they were supposed to evaluate and get back to you? I'm not trying to stir up trouble, the only reason that I ask is because I got a cutting (from one of her own hybrids) a couple of years ago from someone on another forum. She didn't ask me to check back with her or give any instructions about not sharing it (I haven't). She posted on the other forum earlier this summer, showing pictures of it, and saying that she could count on one hand everybody who had a piece of it. I answered her on there, reminding her that she had sent me a cutting, and telling her that mine had lots of buds. She asked me to post a picture when the blooms opened, and I did. If she had asked me to evaluate it for her, I would have emailed her the first time that it bloomed, instead of just noticing her post and responding to it.
Tree_Climber, I do not know what happened here but the way it is supposed to work is that growers trust a few fellow brug friends to evaluate their best of their best hybrid seedlings in different climates. It is done with the understanding that they are being given just for evaluation. Not for propagation or for hybridizing.
And surely with the hope and trust that those people given the brug to evaluate will not undercut you by selling your special brugs or by giving them away before you have had a chance to sell them yourself to make back some of the money it costs to grow so many seedlings out, most of which do not make the cut and you end up tossing out.
Also if they are given out to others before you decide whether they are good enough to be released to the public or if they should be destroyed instead, you no longer have any control. A brug you don't want to have your name on could then be out there forever more and reflect badly upon your reputation as a brugmansia grower/hybridizer.
Many of us want to be evaluators because we love brugs and would be thrilled to grow out those special ones just so we can enjoy it in own gardens. And being one of the first to grow out an extra special brug, is thrilling. But it also is big responsibility.

Maybe what I have isn't the same as Dreamcatcher .............. I just checked the site, and the one I ordered is spelt as two words "Dream Catcher" .........
Also, the site I made my purchase at isn't offering Mango Crush for sale.
I hope I haven't unknowingly participated in something that hurts the original grower.
Yes, I am sure. Everyone that got evaluation cuttings from me, were told not to cut on the for a year, it hasn't been a year yet. I wanted to know about their bloom habits, tolerances to heat and cooler temps, and if they were bug magnets.
Tree_Climber you are alright, you did nothing wrong. If I see something I want for sell I grab it too! How were you supposed to know? If I see something on a website for sell, I am not going to sit and wonder if they should be selling it, if I want it I am going to buy it! Chances are the seller assumed that is was released and negleted to ask Monika or Susie if it was.

I'm excited to have both of them, so I'll just hope they do well for me and have fun watching them grow. Maybe I'll have some great pictures to share next year.
simone is not released yet? i don't want to get anyone in trouble but i have it on backorder with brugmansias.net. i see they have dream catcher too. well, i guess we'll see how it does in my climate if i ever receive it. i didn't know much about simone when i was ordering it. i was just looking for doubles to try out here. i wish there was some web site i could look this info up. like maybe this information could be listed in the abads database or something. i'm hoping susanne does well for everyone doing the eval so i can grow it soon. that one looks promising.
update: my simone order has been canceled. looks like the unreleased ones are not available for sale anymore.

I just went to the site mentioned above. There are some pretty awesome European brugs listed.
Obviously i've missed out on something? When did the european brugs make it to the states? Well, i'm assuming they are europeans because one of the photo credits is monikas.

Ms. Jen, are you talking about ABADS galleries? Aren't their pictures amazing? I wish we had those brugs here. Monika has shared with ABADS lots of her incredible pictures . The galleries were already great and Monika's pics are just icing on the cake. I can look at them for hours. I understand there are a few people now that are importing lots of European brugs so give it a couple of years and we will have them available here, I hope!

Kell, I'm not sure who mary is. All i did is follow the above mentioned link and looked at the pretties.
I can't, and didn't, SAY that monkia sent her brugs, and would rather not get in to that. I just made a comment about euro brugs being available and i guess i was wrong for assuming that tiara was a newer euro. I've done research since then (which i should have done before i posted) and have found that it is available in a few places.
Oh too bad Ms Jen. You had me so excited there! I must be confused for I see no link except for the ABADS one. I tried to write in brugmansias.net but it comes up not able to locate. I thought Mary as in MaryinLA had a store at a similar address but I could be wrong. I can't find her store now either.

I feel like i'm creating a mess here, and i dont like that feeling. Just went back and checked it again, and the address bar does show abads. All i was seeing was the pic with monikas watermarked on it.
Should have been simple enough, and with that i'm done. I'm not sure if i'm detecting underlying sarcasm or not.
It was a mistake on my part to assume that euro brugs were now availabe and for that i'm sorry.
I had an order with Mary (Brugmansia.net) for two Simone's. I just emailed her to ask her if she was still going to sell it to me. She said she didn't know there was a problem with Simone. I sent her this link. Darn! She cancelled my order, refuned my money and took Simone off of her listings. Told me in all fairness she couldn't sell me the brug now that she new it had not been released.
I'm so unhappy.
