I'd really like my next question to be answered via email. I know this is weird, but from the threads that I have read, even the very good ones, I feel awkward sharing this on a public basis. There is alot about Brugs I want to understand. Despite once in a while interference, I think I see alot of good - but OUCH - lots of different ideas, advice, all with personal knowledge. I believe we all have our preferences that work for us individually. If you are new, then ask, find out way too much. I really enjoy the encouragment, the complete laughs, and the "ut oh's" that you helped me with.
Need an Expert
And your question IS??????
Karrie- I'm not sure of your question either? But it's cut and dry taking care of them. There really is no secret to unlock. Just feed and water them. They are very easy to take care of although a bit time consuming. Everyone has their own way of how they do things. My way is to do as little as possible. I don't baby them. I toss some osmocote on and let them go. My only mistake is when I plant them in pots my pots always end up being too small. No big deal, I repot them. Here is one I've repotted twice this season and it hasn't missed a beat.
Good luck and don't make it harder on yourself then it has to be.
p.s. edited to add, I'm not a expert and I feel I don't need to be to grow these. Everything I learned about them was from here((thanks everyone)). But in the end you do what works for you.
Kyle's Pink in bloom all summer and repotted twice. Shot taken yesterday.

Karrie, one of the reasons that you see so much conflicting advice is because we all live in different places with different climates. What works in Texas or Oklahoma won't work in Washington. I live in a place with hot summers, so afternoon shade is a must for me. You can probably keep yours in full sun all day long without a problem. Your best bet is to find someone living in your area of the country to give you specific pointers.
Ya know what? I am super embarrased. I have a back problem, and usually take half the dose of my muscle relaxant. Well, last night I took the full dose, and a glass of wine and then must have typed that question. Obviously something was bothering me, and I was hesitant to ask, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was that I needed to ask. It may have had something to do with my Brugs budding already, when I planted the seeds last February, where some people are waiting 3 or more years to get blooms. Maybe something with the way we fertilize? I dunno! Ouch! Maybe I need to take another full dose to remember, NOT!
If I remember what it was, I will let ya'll know.
Ronna - we have very hot dry summers here, and I found for me that my Brugs did best in partial shade (like 1/2 day sun). They didn't like the full sun at all.
Karrie, shame on you. Don't you know not to mix muscle relaxants with acohol? Thar's very dangerous.
It didn't say it on that bottle - it said it with the naproxyn, but I didn't take any of that. Anyways, that won't happen again! Promise!
Good, Karrie. We don't want anything to happen to you. Hope your back gets better.
Don't worry, haven't even taken any meds yet tonight, nor had a drink! But I do have a question.
How many buds does a Brug normally get it's first year, as a seedling? This is probably one of those "it ranges from 0 to 50" questions, but just curious if there is an average. No need to email me on this. An answer here would be fine, lol! :-)
WOW - that was a first year plant from seed? That is alot of Buds!
Brugie...were your seeds planted in the fall? Winter? and how are you over-wintering them? Getting ready to plant some and want to do it right!
Margie, the seeds for that one were planted, probably in late fall or early winter. I have to plant around the first of October to be assured of getting one summer bloom flush, but sometimes a few of them will bloom up to three flushes.
Yup Karrie, that was a seedling.
I planted mine in February. Although I won't get a full flush, one of mine has about 14 buds (but the plant is terrible looking from that spider mite problem I had) and the others have about 8 buds. My two healthiest plants are my Isabella X's. They have about 8 buds a piece (and looks like more on the way) and seem to avoided the spider mite infestation altogether.
Are certain crosses or varities more pest resistant? These brugs weren't that far away from each other, and one cross did fine, the other not!
Our fall seems to be here early this year - it has really been cold! Either we'd better get an Indian Summer here real soon or these babies are going to be blooming in the house!
