I love mine so much!!! I bought a sad looking large specimen at Rite-Aid a few months ago for $4, and it has grown, such large leaves, I have quite a collection of begonias, I'm lucky to be in zone 9 for sure, and leave them all in the ground year round, except for my specialty ones, they stay in pots in my flower beds, then get put under the eaves in winter.
Annie
My favorite begonia EVER!!!
ZONE ENVY!!!! LOL
~julie~
W-O-W!!!!! I'm floored......after that pic, all of my begonias look crappy. ;-)
Julie, funny! I'm sure you grow plants I would die for in your region, right? I'm plant crazy for sure,
Annie
Annie...I can't imagine what plant I can grow here that isn't made void by all the gorgeous things you can grow out there...and just think of how LONG your growing season is. (Yep! Definitely ZONE ENVY on my part! LOL)
~julie~
Yes We are very lucky indeed!
Annie
Ya'll are killing me! It's the middle of the winter and I'm having garden and begonia-itis. This one is SO great!
I don`t know it`s name but it sure is beautiful.
Kattamos,
That is 'Super Curl'. Logee's has one similar or the same thing called 'China Curl'. Another site has it as 'Devil's Paradise'. Pike's is a great place to pick up some begonias - just wish they had them in stock more often.
Butch
Holy Cow! You still have a leaf of Earl? Talk about resiliency. I know some leaves will root in the summer or fall, and sit there all winter, before throwing up any new pups the next spring, but this leaf takes the cake.
Yup, that stinker just sat there and sat there and sat there. I figured after over 3 months what harm could it do to put it in the perlite tray.
Well aparently it likes it just fine. Two nice leaves too.
Remember on the 9th when I emailed to say that I was repotting all my remaining cuttings which were infected with fungus gnat maggots. Well 95% have new roots. None had roots when I put them in 10 days ago. I'll shoot you some photos.
This whole perlite technique for the winter is the trick!
Glad to hear you are having success with the perlite. After they get some more roots are you going to move them to a different mix or are you going to let them where they are?
BUtch, is it considered a rex?
I'll move them to a 50/50 perlite/soi less planting mix. Then under the lights.
All my brug cuttings have rooted so They'll get moved up to 1 gallon cans and into the greenhouse for the winter. Where they are in the bubbler is where the rooted cuttings will go for a bit then back out to the greenhouse.
the pic entrigued me , so i took a look at the thread too. your begonia escargot just took my breath away.Dat dog... so i order one from www, plants for kids ,felt it the safest way as i rationalized with my self that if i killed it in a day or two perhaps they would take mercy on me and send another to try ..yup ..thats about the deal ,if it dose'nt survive in less then a week i can call them crying and they will send me another ...way kool. last time ,about 10 years ago, i had some coleus plants that a friend let me dig ,as they also were awsome plants .i kept them alive about 2 months in the spring/ summer out on our shaded patio. they were a red and green varigated type i loved them too, then i brought them inside and began to notice white spider like or ,mold looking stuff on the leaves , i sprayed soap as i thought spider mites . i had a houseplant book then.i think it made it worse and they began to die out. i was so sad and mad at myself i vowed to never again try coleus so this escargot plant is a big job ,i'd hate to kill it too. but wow the packageing was great when my escaorgot arrived . moss to keep it moist , over sized box too, they did a great job sending it to me. who knows coleus may be next!
Well I LOVE the Escargot too... I ordered from plantsforkids also, and had to order 6 for $40... was the only way cause I couldn't see paying 11 for one 3" plant lol. I hope they turn out good!

Sharon
geraniums or begonias?
Begonias .... I've been wanting an escargot forever, but with the price of the plant and shipping just kept thinking I'd find a better deal. The PlantsforKids price included shipping, so got all six (3" pots as opposed to 2 1/2" elsewhere" for $39.99. They had other kinds of plants, but I didn't dare look at them just yet! LOL
Sharon
Same here Sharon... I did look at their other stuff and it's all interesting, but pricey... There is no way I would pay $11 for a 3" pot unless its EXTREMELY rare and I can't live without it, lol.
Amy
Hi I really like your Escargot it's sure is a beauty..I was at HD today and they have 7 different Rex Begonias in a 4 inch pot for $2.95..So if anyones interested you might wanna check it out..Nice and healthy looking too,for a change..! :o)))
Loretta...
Thanks, Loretta.
Will go there tomorrow and check them out. Have just gotten interested in rex begonias. I fear this may become another plant obsession.
Digs
Digs I know what you mean after seeing her's,made me get very interested..I'm sure glad I did'nt order any on line now... One looks just like the Escargot that she has..I bought all 7 varities...lol..I betcha you will too..! ;o)))
Loretta...
Received my begonias today from plantsforkids, and am very pleased with the size and health of all six. Only one little tiny leaf was broken off. Considering that the price included shipping, I feel I got my money's worth.
Sharon
I just got my Logee's order for Begonia Escargot today and was really pleased with the nice size of the plant. Because I expected it to be really small, I had also placed an order with plantsforkids. So I was excited to hear you say that your plants were a fair size.
