feathered blue/purple morning glory

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

These blooms are huge!!! so feathery and pretty, I just fell in love with the color, they started off a little smaller, but as they grew the blooms are now all rather large, anyone else growing this one? and if so, did yours do the same thing?

here is a frontal view of same flower, I am trying to determine whether or not the fertilizer I used made them grow this large or if everyone elses grew in the same fashion. Thanks ~ Laurrie

LOL well it all depends upon if they get to setting seed and they are ripe before our frost hits!!

Tell me about it...I have a dozen or so, neat vines that have me on pins and needles right now...
I am afraid we are going to have an early frost this year, despite what the almanac says...

I know, I am growing over 50 different variety this year, alot Japanese ones, and of course, the older common ones, some are setting lots of seed, where others are already ripe and picked!!

I am also growing the silverlace vine and its ready for me to pick, but we have had so much rain, I haven't been able to get out there to do it.

Thanks Marcy, I see you are in OH also, do you grow Morning glories at your place?

I love it!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, there are so many pretty ones. I've got to do something different next year to get mine to bloom. Also, I've got to figure out more places to plant them. Right now I only 6 available spots, and there are at least 20 different varieties I would like to plant. LOL

Hi Laurrie....
I haven't been growing morning glories...but I do like them. The fields around here are full of wild ones. If I were to grow some of the named varieties...would they cross with the wild ones?

I didn't even know there were so many varieties until I started coming here. They are beautiful!

Laurrie..... As I wrote the last post..I was trying to think how I knew you..lol. And now I've remembered! You sent me purple datura seeds early this spring!
They were among the seeds in my portable greenhouse that got blown over..but some survived and did bloom too. Thanks again!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

WOW cool Marcy, I sent lots of things out this past spring, but your name seemed familiar as well. Did you like the datura? My first double purple/white bloomed today, very pretty too.

I don't think you would have to worry about them crossing, it takes quite a bit, most people think that a bee will do the cross pollination, but most times it is already pollinated before the bee/bug gets to it, MG's are self pollinators. People try really hard to get good crosses, and sometimes no crosses even produce seed, so go ahead and plant, I don't think you need to worry to much about them crossing.

Absolutely pretty! This cannot escape attention of blue lovers. No exception here. Any seeds for me?

You say you are growing 50 varieties of MG... how and where do you grow them all?

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

some are in pots and some are in the ground, some are at my relatives houses, grandma, mom, sister, etc. brightens up their houses and I get to take the photos LOL

No seeds at all yet, but if and when they are ready I will post on my member store and my memberpage.
