Any reason why not? I have an ugly wall to cover at the back of my garden. I transplanted all of my ivy that was covering every inch of my front garden back to the wall, and it is growing nicely but it will take years.... I was thinking next year to plant morning glory and moonflowers so I'd have flowers all day!
Or does anyone have another recommendation for my ugly wall?
Morning glory and moonflowers..can I plant together?
You can plant them together with no problems at all, the morning glories will bloom morning till probably the heat of the day, whereas the moonflowers open at night and close near dawn. If you harvest seeds you will also be able to tell the difference in the seed pods, so very different, good luck!!
We had the same idea, razzie, for our gardens this part spring. Unfortunately, we have been less than impressed with the results. Early last spring, we planted several large trellises with a mix of Morning Glories and Moonflowers. We soon discovered that the Moonflower vines are much more "robust" than the Morning Glory vines, i.e. they are much longer, much heavier, and produce much larger leaves. They quickly took over the trellises at the expense of the Morning Glories. By midsummer we could barely see the Morning Glories behind the monster Moonflower vines. We even considering cutting the Moonflower vines out. Most of the Morning Glory flowers every morning were (and are) hidden behind the Moonflower foliage. In addition, the Moonflowers produce very few flowers (in our experience) and don't really start blooming that much until very late in the season (again, in our experience). Next year we plan to grow only Morning Glories on our trellises.
All the best to you in covering your wall!
Erick
Hmmm, thanks, Erick, great personal experience! I do love the morning glories.
