This is a very pretty one this year, I have one that is more of a rose chocolate whereas this is more plain chocolate.
Chocolate silk MG
exquisite!
Thanks! It is so pretty on my porch each morning I go outside just to peek at it!
do u know the name? BTW the other pix are SO SO pretty. DH built me a trellis that I filled with fig ivy. I'm thinking about now growing MG on the same trellis. when it dies back in the winter I would still have the fig ivy, or do you think MG will choke the ivy? anyway, can't think of a more beautiful specimen to display on my trellis.
Stunning
Laurrie, that is just gorgeous! Love the drops of water on the flower.
LOL thanks all :)
Vossner: yes the name is Chocolate Silk morning glory - I think morning glories would look stunning with your ivy,and I don't think the mg would choke out the ivy at all! but perhaps someone familiar with your area and growing conditions would be better off to answer this one, I am in OH and here I have my MG's growing with my silverlace vine, but the silverlace vine is much faster growing and the mg's tend to hide underneath the canopy instead of climbing over and on top of it. Is the ivy "short" or does it seem to branch out or spread alot?

here was another shot of the Chocolate Silk yesterday, they are huge, double up your fist like you are gonna punch someone (ha ha, but dont' do it LOL), and these blooms completely cover the fist!!
Ohio Breezy...such a pretty morning glory!!
i luv it i luv it i luv it. that's so pretty. the fig ivy sort of sticks to the trellis, i think my MG would grow over it, hopefully. anyway, good idea. i was doing some more "cruising" and there seems to be a vast source of mg seeds/plants right here in my area.
thanks again and congratulations on such beautiful vine.
You are so welcome, good luck finding just the right one!! There are soo many lovely ones to choose from now.
This looks like what came up when I planted a packet from Pinetree Seeds labeled "Convolvulus tricolor". Do the leaves on your have cream variegated splashes on green? Ours is sort of a tan pink, like what we see on the tall kind of pink lady's slippers in the woods around here. I never would have imagined "tan" in any color would be an improvement, but this is so enchanting. One other color appeared, sort of a dusky blue also with white rim. They are very well mannered here - two share a wiskey barrel with oregano, peppermint scented geranium, lovage and lemon grass. These morning glories greet us when we open the back door in the morning.
Has anyone else had this experience with mislabeled seeds? I've been trying to grow the chocolate morning glory for years unsuccessfully and wouldn't you know success would sneak in the back door? We're thrilled.
