Which Hibiscus is this?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

My better half has had this hibiscus for many years, and it's never had a bud. We thought it was sterile or something. This year we've had it out on our covered deck, gets lots of light, and up to 40*C, 104*F. Yesterday we decided to repot it, and today looking to see if it's OK, found what we think are lots of buds. Of course we missed them yesterday, but we weren't looking for any. It's more varigated than ever now, on the ends of the newer branches, and you can see the pink edging.

Any idea which this is and what it'll look like?

Thanks in advance.

Hibiscus rosa sinensis Cooperii will have small red flowers with a ruffled edge.

Oh Thank you Eclipse. I'll post a picture when it blooms. This plant is about 15 yo and never bloomed before.

Mg99 I have one just like it...it doesn't bloom either....great foliage though! :-)

I've never seen one like that before. I have the common red one -- I put it out in the summer on my deck and it is huge! I fertilize it like crazy (put some Bloom Plus in the water every time I water it!) and it blooms like a rosebush all summer! Gorgeous. I just got a piece of a yellow one from a friend that I am rooting in water ...hope I have good luck with that one too.

I have one like it .blooms are single and red on mine.

I think it might be going to bloom this year because a) it's out where it's warmer and brighter than it usually gets, and b) it's getting fed regularly. I'm into brugs, which as you probably know are heavey feeders, so when I'm watering/feeding, everything gets fed. It's still looking good, so will post when it blooms. It's been really nice with the great foilage, never seen anything like it.

Thanks for your knowledge pn this one.

If this is the same one, I just picked this up at Wal-Mart as I love the varigated foliage. Red bloom is great against it!

Well, just checked the name Kyle provided and it's not the same, no pink in the foliage. Just found the label and it's the 'Variegata".

I just used my first new marker to name this one. I've had this fellow for years and didn't know the name. Some years he blooms and some years he doesn't. Like Eclispe said, even the years it doesn't bloom the foliage is great. When it is covered in little red blooms, it is magnificent! Thanks for the name.

It is also known as "Snow Queen". You have to be careful with your fertilizer and make sure that you are not using one with high nitrogen. Something more like a bloom buster type will encourage blooms.

Thank you tribiscus......MG bloom booster will now be the way I'll go! :D
