I recently read a magazine article highly complimentary of this tree. I am thinking of planting one and will appreciate comments (pro or con) from anyone who has experience with it. There is a cautionary comment in the article that says not to confuse it with Loropetalum chinense which is a popular evergreen shrub sometimes called Chinese fringe.
Chinese fringe tree (Chionanthus retusus)
These are just absolutely great small trees that offer 3 seasons of interest. Spectacular when in flower, they have glossy, deep green leaves all summer, and good fall color. Plus, they are just about disease and insect free.
