Here is the third flush of seedling #1 by JT Sessions:
The color has changed again and all the blooms on this one have seven spurs.
This is not the same plant as the last one with seven spurs, but a full sister.
First shot this morning with a flash.
Another Seedling is blooming
OK Grethcen, I get the message....no emails from me begging for it. LOL! This one is sure pretty.
So you are the suav. princess!! I hope you love them. I have got to say I, after dissing them for 2 years, took another look and fell in love with them this year. I know lots of people are hybridizing these genes out of their brugs because they are so susceptible to SB, but until SB strikes me, I am going to keep a few.
Do you have Tropical Sunset or _____ (shoot....what is the other one that is bi-colored like this one?) Gretchen to compare the differences? I know I just love Tropical Sunset. I would love finding one that held its blooms not so pendent but more horizontal so I could really see the huge open bloom. Ohhhhhhhhhh I miss my brugs!
Hi Kell -- thanks! No, I don't have TS or anything like this one at all. It'll be interesting to watch this one and her sister. Her first blooms were very pale yellow (nearly white). The second go around, they were a deep golden yellow, and now they are this pretty peachy color.
Do you know the background of TS? I wonder if they have similar liineage? And, yes I do love the suavs. I'm just thrilled to have a few seedlings that aren't just plain white LOL!
I don't have Tropical Sunset, but I do have Jean Pasko and she has a darker rim on her, but short tendrils. Can't help it, I like JP. TS didn't bloom well for me. The few blooms she had were nice, but since I can't keep everything, I chose to hold JP over.
Gretchen, you are getting great results with your yellow brugs this year. I'm glad this one seems to be showing some consistency with the extra points. I really like those big, wide flowers.
You are a great brug Momma Gretchen! Im sure the hybridizers love hearing from you.
Shirley -- I have 3 Jean Pascos from 3 different sources. One has not yet bloomed (an may never at this rate) and the other two bloomed solid yellow, each in two separate flushes. I wonder if they really are JP?
Ted -- Thank you, I'm certainly enjoying them. This one only had six points the other two times she bloomed. This is the first time she's had seven.
Here is a picture of her sister with seven last time she bloomed:
Shelly -- thanks! I posted over you... I love growing these pretty ones!!!
Another great pic. So I am trying to think here... ..no rude remarks please.............. are suavs the only ones prone to this bicolor pattern of coloration? I love this look. Really adds interest.
Gretchen, here is a picture of my JP from one of the contests. I hope this will open up for you.

Gretchen
I love the color of the first one but the sister to it is so lemmony in color, it's awesome. I love it...also the whiteish contrast inside with the yellow is gorgeous...wow
I like the last one pictured too! :-)
Beautiful all of them.
Wow, Shirley! This seedling looks just like yours with the exception of the number of spurs! What is the parentage of Jean Pasco? Mine "Jean Pasco" must've been mis-named by someone down the line...
Here is a pic of my "Jean Pasco" blooming 7-22-04:
Thank you Julie and Kyle -- that is my favorite of all my seedlings thus far. Can't wait to see the next flush of the yellow/white seedling!
PS: I just looked up the Jean Pasco and this seedling definitely looks like one. Does anyone think the one I was given as Jean Pasco could be Janet Reno, but mis-labeled? I'm going to have to write to the generous giver of that one and see... I know that person also has Janet Reno... Thanks! Gretchen
:Op....... *I'm drooling*
Kyle is the person to ask about Jean Pasko. For some reason, I'm thinking that she was found someplace, but the old memory bank has a crack in it.
Gretchen, I am not disputing that your 'Jean Pasco' is actually JP, but it does not look like mine. The flowers on mine are more orange - refer to the link below. Mine looks like the pictures at ABADS, especially the pics in the first two rows of the album. http://www.americanbrugmansia-daturasociety.org/brugmansia_jean_pasco.htm
The first sister picture is nice, I like her-but I LOVE the lemony second sister! Mary
Well, I've written to the person that gave me "Jean Pasco" for confirmation...
Thanks Pam and mj! Isn't it fun growing these seeds???
Gretchen, if that was a first night bloom, the color might not have been there yet. If it doesn't color up, I'd say you definitely don't have JP. Could be wrong though.
Shirley -- that was the first night of the second flush. The color never did intensify, so I guess you're right. I'm guessing that some labels got switched and that its a JR. I'll post again here when I find out if that's a possibility... Thank you!!!
Jean Pasko was found as a wild growing plant in the highlands of Columbia in the early 80's.Named after the woman that found it.Parents will never be known. :-)
Thank you Kyle. I remember reading that somewhere, now that you've jogged my memory! I have another JP from a different source, and it'll be interesting to see what she looks like in my climate. Finally, she has a few tiny buds...
Shoot, I had no idea Jean Pasko was a wild one. I tossed 2 becuase I had no room and kept Tropical Sunset. And my TS this year is not as exciting as it was last year!! BOO WHOO!
I'm definitely thinking mine above is a Janet Reno... It didn't look anything like the pix of JP...
Jean Pasco has a very wide and sharply pointed bud when first starting to bloom. The calyx is very inflated......almost balloon looking. It only opens completely during the night(a late bloomer!!LOL) the edges of the corolla are dark orange or gold with a lighter center.Nice fragrance....and as many wild forms..it tends to throw many of its characteristics into its offspring. The inflated calyx is the giveaway.
Pic is "Clare Mills" notice the inflated calyx and characteristic shaped corolla of a Jean Pasco progeny.
Here is another picture of mine. Terrible quality, but you can see that the calyx is not "inflated", so this, I would say is definitely not a JP. Thanks for all the information, Kyle! I'm really anxious to see my other "JP" finally bloom to see what it looks like!
Picture please, Gretchen.....LOL!
I'm anxious to see mine bloom now to be sure it is JP. I didn't have it for a few years, bought a new one last year from Logee's and it didn't bloom, so I'm still waiting.
Kyle, thanks for your information on Jean Pasco - your description matches my plant perfectly... inflated calyx, pointed buds, dark orange edge of corolla and lighter at the center, and only wants to open fully after dark. Mine has so far been more interested in growing than blooming, but it is finally starting to get lots of buds so I am hoping for a good show this fall. BTW, since JP has grown so much I should have plenty of cuttings to give away this fall if anyone wants them.
Tom,
the fragrance when in full bloom is Heavenly on this cultivar.
yep gretchen that sure does look like janet reno, sorry i mixed them two tags up .
