Food TV - $40 a Day - Asheville, NC

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I don't know if she's ever done a show in Asheville, but Rachel Ray has taught me one useful thing - Ask the Locals for the best cheap meals! So, here I am.

I'm planning a weekend vacation in the Asheville area, to "get away from it all". By "all", I mean big city Greenville. Growing up, my parents and I would go "to the PA mountains". We would camp, go hiking, fishing, watch Daddy hunt deer, and go "deer peeping". Now, living in SC, I haven't done that, and I'm making plans to do so.

I have one meal I need to plan outside of my trip. I'm looking for a good, cheap, "local fare" dinner place. Not looking for some fancy Mexican, or Thai place - I can get those here. *yuck* I'm talking about a local place, that Asheville residents enjoy, "off the beaten path".

Hope somebody can help out here... Thanks in advance,
-Jennifer

That's a fun show. I don't have any clue what to tell ya foodwise, but have fun! :)

One of my favorite places to eat is Earth Fare (Natural Foods), because it's SUCH healthy food and always yummy. Cafeteria style and nice dining area. It's always filled with locals who care about quality of foods. Be prepared for seeing all kinds of people in there, from dreadlocks to pink hair to business suits.

Most of the local food joints are not too good, lots of starch & fats. Stay away from the strip (Tunnel Road) tourist restaurants as they are like Greenville.

There ya go with Earth Fare, again! I have just GOT to go check this place out!!

LOL, shaz... When ya know a good place, ya don't keep it a secret!

I have eaten at Earth Fare in Forest City. It's WONDERFUL. Reminds of of an even better cool place to eat in Yellow Springs OH. It's called Carol's Kitchen. Boy I miss that place.
