Some pics of my pots

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

The reason I asked about saving seeds is that I've had several volunteer at the base of the original container. I've kept an envelope with a few from each color. I'll see what they do next year.

C.R. You're a great example of the wonderful things that can be created when we start thinking outside the proverbial window "box." PLEASE keep showing us your combos, I just love seeing what others are planting.

Julie...I have a question...every thread I visit it seems you are adding your knowledge and grand encouragement...how do you ever have the time to garden??? LOL

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Dale if you are finding Julie in every thread you visit must be you are spending alot of time online too.
Personally I'm addicted to surfing the net but somehow manage to get all my gardening done. Now as for the dust bunnies and wet towels, thats another story.
Julie your positive presense is appreciated.
Keep sharing your experiences and sunshine! :))

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Dale...LOL for real on that comment! I guess you and I are in the garden at the same time!
:-D As for the part about my "knowledge and grand encouragement" What a HOOT! HAHAHA ...All I'm doing is taking part in something that honestly enjoy. If something "smart" slips out...well, WOW! I didn't expect that! (I'm still laughing!)

C.R. Thanks *your* "appreciation" is truly appreciated...now how's THAT for a "mutual admiration society?" ROFLMBO (still!) Now you're making me cough...and then I'll wet my pants...

~julie~
P.S. Dale....I actually following you around....don't look behind you....BOOO!
:-D :-D

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL We must be interested in the same things because I spend about 10 minutes skimming the threads that I need/want to learn about...and there you are too! So much knowledge here. It is truly amazing...ask a question and in a matter of hours it is usually answered! Frances just blew through and we were blessed again. A huge oak branch crashed on my pride and joy Tigrina though, and that is about all I can see with my hurricane shutters up. I will assess everything else tomorrow. The Tigrina had just gotten too big to bring in, or I would have. I don't know how they come back....like other Aroids or not. But I am very blessed to even have a yard to assess! It went right over chris at Burried Treasures so I am praying for him. Thanks one and all for all the knowledge you impart!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Yep! I have a feeling that we're doing pretty much the same kind of things...and following much the same threads. I don't have a lot of time on DG, but I do have it in a window where I can check the DG home page. So whenever I get a chance, I refresh the screen...if something's new, I'll take a minute or so to leave a comment or answer something someone's directed to me. Sometimes, I just leave an "LOL" when a comment really made me 'giggle'. (I just love THAT about DG...)

Dale, I've been thinking of you a lot while Frances was on the way. I wondered how you'd fare. I'm, once again thankful that you were spared...and I hope your Tigrina survives its ordeal.

Power is back on and it was a long night...small branches make BIG sounds when they are hurled at metal storm shutters! I put in my ear plugs, snuggled up with my pooch and slept as best I could. My dad is on the other coast and I just talked to him this morning. He is OK but without any landscaping. It is really hard to imagine....the trees that are still standing look like trees in winter up north...completely stripped of all leaves. My yard is about 6" deep in leaves and small branches. Most all my plants will be OK but now I have to get all the samll branches off them. I have lived in my little bungalow for over 30 years, so my email and phone machine are full of messages asking what I was going to do! And now here comes Ivan. Poor people inland really got it from both Charley and Frances. Some had just moved into their FEMA provided trailers and they had to leave again...they look so beaten, discouraged and tired on the news. Say a prayer that they are spared from Ivan. Those affected the most during these two storms were the least able to come back from it too. And isn't it wonderful that we can still ask for prayers and not be censored?

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Dale says: "And isn't it wonderful that we can still ask for prayers and not be censored? "

julie says "You got THAT right!" And that's the big difference between DG and a lot of other sites on the Web. One big reason I like it here.

Prayers going out as requested...and in the meantime...good to hear from you, stay safe and DUCK!!! ;-)

I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight! Tomorrow will be a busy clean-up day. Thanks Julie for the prayers...I was talking about being to even say the word prayer in a public forum in the USA in general!

Thumbs UP, DP6 (I really did understand what you meant.)

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

I kind of figured you did Julie. I am sending photos of my coleus cuttings...they root like rabbits! Maybe I can get some Wild Lime. I have a better system this year for keeping their names straight, but these will have to remain anonymous! Getting reports from friends who went through the storm. No oxygen for the sick, no gas for the emergency vehicles/clean-up, stores have nothing non perishable like meat...all dry goods and some bread. All the perishable spoiled during the blackouts. Still spotty areas have electric, but millions don't. It was 96 with a dew point of 79...hot and muggy! No traffic lights, large part of of I 95 closed because of sink holes.
Whew! No phones/no cable/ if you have water you have to boil it. And the people who were hit so hard by Charley and no where close to being stable are now taking a backseat to the victims of Frances. A real mess!

East Greenbush, NY

hi, kitchen window box pic is beautiful. What plants do you have there and what are the sun requirements? Thanks for your help.jeani4

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Jean :)
Right off hand I can only recall verbena and allysum...the other plants I will have to see if I can locate the tags. This window box received an eastern exposure.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Cottage_Rose great photos of your large and small pots of plants. I have quite a few , would grow more but even with a dripper line for the ones on the deck takes a lot of time watering in this quite hot and very dry summer climate. Yours look very happy and healthy. Donna

Luv your containers, Cottage_Rose!!! What's your secret in the containers to keep them sooooooo lush?????
:) Donna

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Lovely, lovey container arrangements, Cottage_Rose. I'm partial to pansies, so that caught my eye first. However, after looking at every lovely one of them, I like the windowbox, too. Jeani4, here I the flowers I see in the box: White trailing verbena, a blue verbena, Swan River Daisy, Sweet alyssum and ageratum. There is something else on the back right... a dark blue, but I'm not sure what... it's a gorgeous combo!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

They are all lovely, but I agree with Weezingreens - - the first one is a wowser. On a damp, dreary day the pansy colors are a definite pick me up.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I just love a watercolor painting of pansies... they are suited for it. Cottage_rose has picked some wonderful colors for her pot. What are you planning this year, Rose?

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Very pretty Cottage Rose, love your combinations. I'm hoping for some really pretty pots this summer for myself. I found some gorgeous Tuscany pots marked down at Lowes for near to nothing and I have PLENTY of room to start things now. :)

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks everybody! :)
I really don't have any secrets...I just use the fluffy type of potting soil, Osmocote time released fertilizer and water daily.
As for what I put in my pots it seems to vary from year to year but I tend to like non-typical plants vs. petunias, geraniums etc.
I also like herbs mixed in with my annuals and lean towards soft colors vs. bright reds, yellow, orange etc. If using bright primary colors I wouldn't mix them with colors other than green foliage plants.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, it sure works! I've found some of the colorful lettuces are quite striking in flower pots, as well.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Glad this thread was brought up again since I missed it the first time. Beautiful containers, CottageRose. You really have an artistic eye. Have you made any tufa containers this winter?

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

No trunnels I have been busy this winter with a critically ill parent.
But its certainly is on the Spring agenda! :)

Weez...I like the thought of using lettuce.
Pots stuffed with kitchen herbs is nice too.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I like to grow colorful lettuces in bowls. They are a both decorative and good to eat! In larger containers, one could add calendula, viola & dwarf nasturtium for colorful salad additions, as well.

Very pretty, Weezingreens. I never would have thought of that!

So sorry to hear about the illness of your loved one, Rose.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

CR I'm sorry to hear about the illness that took you away from your pots too. But I'm glad to hear that you're planning to make more this summer. Hopefully I'll be right in the 'mud' with you. :-D

Thanks for the idea of the lettuce and salad goodies in a bowl...I *need* a snack when I'm outside...and what better way to get one.

Weez...that's a pretty bowl.

Thanks trunnel & Julie! ;)

Shamrock, TX(Zone 6b)

I grow 60 roses, tomatoes, peppers in pots and have for 15 years all are on drip irrigation and watered two time a day .

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

I love the Roses & verbena. And those pansies are really something!
