Oops I think that one was a repeat. Have taken any lately because the water has been coming down for a week now. Today is the first day with some sun in it.

I can tell you kept your *precious* nice and warm Lynn....it's been a few years since I've had success with them.

Those snaps are gorgeous!!

Imma not even going to show my brugs your pictures.... :(

Me neither. You look like you have all the lovelies in spite of the weather. About the salvia splendens, do you remember which one it is?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

1. What is POD. A person you swop with, or a company.

2. Blvd. is just plain lovely. I started planting my blvd. this year. Plants all stolen or kicked to pieces. Unbelieveable. 3 streets over I have a lovely blvd. garden I started for little old lady who can't garden. This has impressed neighbours so now about 7 or 8 houses have plantings in front. I would really like to know what makes the difference between my street and one 3 streets over. Same inner city area.

3. Promiscuous. Are yu sure Echoes?? "Sweet Willy"??? First time I've seen Echoes use a nickname. What is this world coming to?

3. Jagonjune. How is it that one person on this list can make others use the correct botanical names - and feel guilty when we can't? Ah me. Especially all the salvias. Can never remember all their names..

Echoes will soon have us all whipped into shape

Inanda - I'm not touching you.....I'm not touching you

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

POD is Plants of Distinction in Britain - I overdosed on their seeds this past year. Will be more controlled this year - beautiful but expensive.

INNER CITY street??? Just exactly where is hamlet - Libau Manitoba. I would have thought Winnipeg would be the only spot where you could actually talk about inner city anything.

It is truly strange what makes the difference in neighbourhood one street to the next. I like to believe that ours has a common thread - almost everyone has a dog and all the dogs know each other and get walked regularly - and they are all pretty much responsible dog owners - translates into respect for property maybe.

And yes I believe that Echoes influence is being felt and it is a good thing - a very good thing - an excellent thing. And we will all try harder in the future - won't we.

Here we go echoes
The dark purple leaved salvia on the boulevard is the true perennial variety from seeds from POD Salvia Lyrata Purple Volcano

The two purple ones in the pot - the lighter colored one with the more traditional flower shape is Salvia Splendens picante purple from Vesey. The darker one with the tiny tighter flowers - more wand/spear like is salvia Blue Bedder from OSC. I often find that nursersies label things blue that my eyes see as purple. Kind of the shade of an RCMP cruiser which I also call purple.

The coral one I will only be remembering so that I never order it again Salvia Coccinea Coral Nymph from Johnny's. Untidy and bloom to plant ratio disappointing.

I don't remember this stuff but this year I did save the packages with the planting data on it.

Thanks for looking those Salvias up Lynne, think I'll try some Picante purple next year. Yes POD is a wonderful catalogue. and the shipping is not too bad either. And thanks for sticking up for me. This name thing - can't help it. It's an affliction. I'll probably remember plant names long after I forget my way home.

I seem to be WAYYYYY behind here. Lynn, your plants and garden are marvelous. You've worked miracles this summer especially if your weather hasn't been good. Everything looks so healthy. I don't know how you find the time to do it all with the restaurant.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

POD . thank you for translation. NO I WILL NOT BUY anything ....yet she says. Lily sale coming up next month. Catalogues pouring in. What to do, what to do. Wonderful ads in Cdn. Gardening.

My last hem has bloomed. 'Absolutely Fabulous' from We're in the Hayfields Now. Cannot stay away from those people (that person now).

Have a mini apartment in Winnipeg for during the week (65km x 2 winter snow driving in 71 VW not a good idea). and then Libau for the weekend. This may change. Who knows. So I garden in both places.

Brugs, magnificent. Wow. I once saw Roger Swain on Victory Garden showing how to winter over his brugs. Thought I would never winter over anything. We.e.e.ll, things do change. I've a ton of zone 7 & 8 thingys that live inside all winter now.

Fell in love with echevarias when living in Victoria. I bought one this year that arrived in a very mangled state. Stuck all the broken leaves in ground and eureka - babies. Amazing.

Cheers Ginny - telling myself we WILL have a warm frostfree Sept.

Whatcha up to Lynn??? We are really a quiet bunch these days!

Todays is supposed to hit +36C with humidity.......it will be the 8th (more or less) hot day we've had this whole summer! :( I'll be telling my plants, if they are planning on blooming, that they had better take advantage of it!!!!

Not here we are headed into the tank; have to make room for the brugs to go in and out and night and start digging up other stuff and moving it in.

Helped one of my guys move to Calgary on Sunday Monday. Hmm an apartment load of stuff down 3 flights into my horse trailer and truck; the drive to Calgary; up 3 flights into new apartment; the drive home. Love the guy dearly and hope someday he will come back here to work for us again - BUT. I said call a mover and choose a ground floor apartment or one with an elevator. LOL

Also we begin today with th dine alberta promotion so a pretty complete menu change over the last 2 days. Tired and my hands are so bad I actually took an anti inflammatory.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Ouch.....time to visit your web page again *after* I eat something of course!! ;)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Kindly (or unkindly) stop sending such fab.brug pix. I'll have to break down and acquire one. My prob. is that one is never enough. -I can see Echoes jumping up and down for joy. I have NO MORE ROOM. Inside. Do you hear me. NO MORE ROOM for winter garden expansion.

I'll be sending my winter garden off to Brenda for a winter vacation.

Inanda, aching all over from a solid day of digging lilies yesterday. Now to replant.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I'm with you, inanda. I would love to acquire a Brug. Have never owned one, but they look gorgeous, and everyone seems to be talking about them. I am sure I could find a nice sunny corner somewhere.... Your pics are beautiful, Lynn.

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks for the cudos. I am just so thankful that I have found a greenhouse owner who is smitten with brugs and has only one kind. Mine will have a lovely winter home without me having to do any of the work. And I get to visit them every week.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Yes, this sounds like a friend of mine who works at local university. She uses theri greenhouse for everything, lucky duck she is.

How are you doing Lynn? Are your plants in their warm and toasty winter quarters?? How is the weather there?
