We called them Firebugs as kids.
It's eating my weeds tho. Or drinking the sap.
What is it?
The bottom 4 frames might be youngsters.
Top 2 frames, adults.
CLOSED: Red beetle
They are certainly a bug (Hemiptera) and not a beetle (Coleoptera).
Are those adults & youngsters or male & female?
Almost certainly young ones and adults. Unlike beetles, whose larval stages are caterpillar-like and quite different from the adults, many true bugs in the Hemiptera go through a series of stages (instars) that gradually become more and more like the adults. Only the adult stage has wings however.
