Am I doing something wrong?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

WHY,oh ,why are my seedlings so much smaller than everyone elses??

I feed them,I talk to them,I have them in great soil
I know its not been a real good summer here...but shesh

Root has some seedlings of mine that are ready to bloom....

The VERY special ones are in the front

The large ones in the back are Susies from last year, you can't really see the ones on the left but they are Creamsicle X EP and Creamsickle X Orange Hybrid (susies,Un named)

Now Shirley and Tracy
come clean
What are you doing to yours that I'm not doing to mine????

CC, I'm so glad you brought this up! I think they are holding out on us. I know my seedlings aren't as big as theirs(and they say things grow bigger in TX!, yeah right!)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

CC are they planted directly in the ground? Maybe that makes a difference. Our soil stays cool forever. In containers the soil is so much warmer.

It's been a really hot summer here, way hotter than usual and no rain and the seedlings in pots are way bigger than the ones in the ground.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I never thought of that!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You gals are so funny......I have been wanting to know Traceys' secret brug food. I keep mine growing all winter, feed them very well, everything anyone mentions that is good fertilizer, talk to them, have them in good soil mix(my own). We have had too much rain and 60 degrees for last three days, NO sun, BUT, I have buds on some I have never seen bloom before, so here's hoping for a double pink, soon. Dreaming here.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

LOLOLOL, nothing I swear...

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

yeah....I'm suppose to beleive that.....

pppplllleeeeaaaasssseeee
TELLL MEE!!!!!!!

Sue,I thought it might be the cold but they have actually grown better in the ground so far

although we got 4 inches of rain today so they may not do too well with it

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, I was at Tracey's greenhouse. She had a secret lab area. Sign on the door said something about radio activity, don't think that meant rock n roll.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

No way dude, they like Country!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OK,that explains it
no country music here.....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shoot, mine probably hear Martha Stewart in the mornings. Jim has his shop door open and he is hard of hearing.

Hey, I know what it is. We live on a highway and the truck traffic is horrible here. Sometimes it will shake the windows of the house. I'll bet it is the vibration. LOL! You know they say to set plants on the TV for the same reason or was it for the heat or maybe the noise....Oh heck, I don't know.

CC....they do look a little pitiful.....LOL I can laugh because some of mine look like yours, only taller.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL!! My secret is compost,I am feeding every few days,I just bumped up to 250 gallons per feeding, and I am using a Foliar mix,and then there is the dance I have been doing for them....

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

CC remember too these guys have a whole month (or more) of growing season ahead of us.

If it makes you feel any better mine don't look any bigger then yours.... well maybe a little ;o)

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh please say you have pictures of that Root! I tried the tomatoe trick on mine, they passed slap out, spent half the day picking up pots!!!!!!!! I thought if I could just get them to blush a little, I could get double pinks for sure, but I think I scared them half to death.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

If it takes country music to get them to bloom fast, mine are out of luck! There is absolutely, positively NO country music at my house!

I have some of your seedlings from last year blooming, CC. You sent me 3 crosses:

white sauveolens x ? = 3 whites, 1 light yellow, 1 darker yellow (this picture) + a few more that haven't bloomed yet.

Isabella x Whiskers = 2 or 3 have bloomed so far, all frosty lookalikes, NO long tendrils yet

Isabella x Charles Grimaldi = only one has bloomed so far, a coral pink frosty lookalike

Well dang mine should be growing like mad then DH has been cranking up the oldies county songs allot lately. lol

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I know what's wrong with mine now. Every time I turn my back, DH turns up the bluegrass! Stunted them for sure!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would have given you some advice CC until I totally screwed up the other day!! God, now I wish some of mine looked like yours! LOL.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh Kell, that looks bad. Bless your heart, are they going to be ok?

They also like 70's Rock, they only get that when there aren't any customers around.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Kell. It looks kind of pitiful. LOL It looks like one of my seedlings that I had to dig back up to get it out of the hot sun.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Eeeeeew Kell, that looks worse than mine.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

CC: Have your tried praying to the "Brug Gods"????

Whitewater, WI

Ouch!!!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You should see them all now! LOL. I took off all the leaves and all the dirt. Poor babies. I think they will make it but it sure set them back. Only the ones that got that mold on top did it.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

What happened to your plants kell? CC mine aren't growing as quick this year either if it makes you feel any better.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I watered them with that alfalfa tea with molasses and yeast. Oh what a mess. Some wilted within 24 hours. Others waited till I watered again. Then I figured it out that the soil had stopped draining. Like the alfalfa had clogged up the air spaces. The water would stay on top of the pot. A mold covered the top of the pots.

This is a sang and it is all wilted on top. The dirt is still soaking wet and I have not watered it since Saturday. It is in a 4 inch pot with a 3 foot plant in it. Usually it needs otbe watered every day.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

here is a huge plant for being in a quart size pot. It has not wilted yet but it will. It also usually must be watered daily and I have not watered it since Saturday and it is still so wet and the top has a moldy slick on it. Even if I scrape off the top of the soil, it does not matter. The water just sits on top of the pot if I water them. It is like the soil is just clogged.

Most of these are just cuttings I was growing because I have not had the heart to toss them. But some are seedlings about to bloom and a few affected really bad were very special seedlings from this yyear. Plus red and Suzanne were affected though they seem to have their end leaves OK so I am hoping they will be OK!.

Root...wanna see that dance

Sue,I know they have a longer growing season but its just not fair

Ronna, this year I have some much better seeds so I'll send you some,I won't even save Savenolens seeds anymore

Kell,Bob said he's gunna try that mixture and I told him DON"T DO IT!

Tracy, what were you doing that would make them blush????

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

That is TERRIBLE Kell! I never would have thought that would happen. I wonder if the molasses and yeast could have made a sticky paste that made the alfalfa hold onto the water? Doesn't yeast expand or something? That is just so sad. All that work you've put into growing them.

Chin up....
With you green thumb I'm sure they'll throw out new leaves and buds real soon. ((hugs))

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Kell this is so sad... I hope they straighen out for you. You treat them better than most people do their kids....

CC you know how Frannie told us to get red Tomatoes faster...

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL!!!!
