Janet, I am so sad for you! I never saw this post before. When I first clicked on it, my girls ooh'd and aaaah'd and said how they would love to have that garden and yard. I told them I didn't know how much of it you had left as you were in the hurricanes. I have to tell you I welled up explaining. They've never seen such a bad storm other than on TV and they are very sad for you too. I can't imagine how awful that must have been to stand there and watch that. I've only ever been in one tornado and that was bad enough, something you never forget. If there is anything I have that you might need, I'd be happy to share with you.
Our little paradise
dang janet.... you know we are 3-4 hrs away from new orleans and we got 10-13 ft of water.... that storm came in at a high tide and pushed it in .
did you take any clean up pics? how the progress is doing.

Thanks Badseed, I had debated for a long while about posting these, and couldn't decide whether to post or not. I finally was talking to another DG member who mentioned these seeing my pics to me, and it occurred to me that bringing up the old thread and doing before and after pics was the only way to accurately depict the photos.
I am going to take some current photos today, hopefully, of work in progress.
We call this the picture of the tree that saved our house, as before the tree fell, water was coming up. Behind the tree was refrigerators, a car, hot water heaters, etc. Had the tree not fallen and the debris piled up behind it, all of that would've came rushing into our house.

Oh my Gosh Janet! Does that bring back memories for me! We were flooded in 03 from hurricane Isabel... I know exactly how you were feeling as the water was coming. My DH was the "calm" one too.
This thread has pics from then. I need to take some new photos this year to show what a difference a couple of years can make.

Janet,
Your pictures show the horrible devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. It will take a lot of time for people to heal. Homes can be replaced, gardens can be replanted, but the souls that were lost and the families split apart from this tragedy may never know peace. I hope that each day brings you renewed strength & courage. Hopefully with the help of your friends at DG, your garden will once again be the beauty that it once was!
Hugs,
Shirley
Oh dear, Janet! I deeply feel for you and your DH! I would have been beeping..... bricks! Thank goodness you were safe! Like Shirley said it will take time to replace the things that got damaged or destroyed but your strength and courage have gotten you through it.
Hugs, Donna
Thanks for your words of encouragement Shirley and Donna. It's easy to see from these pics why I feel so lucky, yet guilty as well. It's hard to explain how we were spared so much devastation, when there is so much so close to me. As you can see everyone else in my neighborhood flooded. My Mom used to always tell me that God will never give you more than you can handle. He must've know I couldn't have handled that!!!!!
I hope to post pics in a few weeks of what is still growing. It is amazing that I do have anything left, but we do!!
Janet
Bump.
Gonna try to post some new pics this weekend, after pics.
Janet
That's what I've been waiting for! lol!
I didn't think you'd stay down long Janet.

Janet, as a fellow Gulf Coast resident the photos of the hurricane fill me with dread for the "soon to be" season. Let's hope we all get a break this year.
Susan
Edited to say I hope you get to keep that beautiful garden this year. Nice work!

Beautiful garden Janet.
I second that Susan.

Wow Janet.....before Katrina, we were hit by the 3 that went through Florida. What a year...I'll never forget it.
I've been in Florida for 20 years, and never had a year like that...so I'm assuming (and praying) we never go throught it again. Believe it or not, the last blue tarp just left the roofs in our subdivision about 3 months ago.
I hope your area is recovering and rebuilding. I hope your garden is too, gardens truly are our little bit of "paradise" that bring us peace...
Good luck to you, your family, and your "piece of peace".
:)
