Petticoat is showing...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Double Peach had a bloom that opened last night, but the underskirt isn't turning peach. Strange looking bloom. LOL!
Took this picture at about 2 this afternoon.

Wow, that is strange...it almost doesn't look real! Wonder if it'll turn later on?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gretchen, I've never had one do this nor have I had one that dropped the inner skirt so far. It really is strange. The first two blooms that opened were normal. I'll see what the next ones do, probably tonight. That is another thing. This plant bloomed all at once for the the first time and now it is a bloom or two each day.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

WHew!! This is one of my favorites!! I kinda like the two tone!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

In my opinion, it is very pretty! It could stay that way at least for me! I like it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure she will straighten out when the weather does. Hey Bob, did you see the little egg sack hanging there? Still no bugs hatching.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

HAd to go look again, yep see it! Myine has done nothing either.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Shirley, what kind of bugs are you hatching?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Praying Mantis, Gretchen. The egg sacks have been hanging for over a month now and nothing. I am keeping one of the sacks in a screened bug house so I will know for sure that they hatch. I bought them to help me with the cucumber beetles. The beetles are here now and nothing to eat them. I hate to have to spray, but if I want any descent looking blooms, I'm going to have to do it.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Pretty cool Shirley! I like it too.

How's Star Dancer doing? I lost my big plant over the winter, and have just had one bloom eaten by the japs so far :( I sure hope you can make a cross or two with it.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

The mantis sacks should open when you have a couple of 70 degree nights. But, I've started seeing them, and it's been cool at night and in the day. But that's what I was told when I bought mine. I just scattered them around in the garden the first year and I've had them eversince. I always see them on my daylily blooms. They must of just hatched in the past week or so, there tiny. Cathy

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Cathy. Last night and tonight will definitely be over 70 degree nights. I hope they will hatch soon.

Mine is just beginning to Y Vi. It is going to be a while yet.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh! I havent seen this one before!! I love it!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You've seen it, but it was peachy color all over. Something went south with this one. LOL!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Brugie,

Years ago, when I had the energy, I used to walk the "wastelands" near my house where now a huge Mall sits. When I found a Praying manthis egg sac, I would cut the whole twig off and bring it home and tie it here and there to this and that in my Garden.

Once, I actually watched the young ones "hatch". They come out the bottom of the "thing", each one consecutively crawling down the previous one in a kind of "Mantis chain".

I have read that they are "canibals" from day one, and often eat up the siblings as they hatch. Keep an eye out!

Love all the beautiful pics you post! Gitagal

I think your brug is cute as a button Shirley, talk about accentuating a double, neon could do no better!!! I really like it, sorta art deco, ya know...

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

hi Brugie, Here I go being an idiot, but still learning about brugs. That is a great looking flower, but my question is that it looks like it is under trees. Have I been hurting mine keeping them in the sun? I have only one flower on the Dr. Seuss and that was the plant that I kept inside over winter, after cutting it back. No pods on the others, and I don't see another on Dr. Suess. Any suggestions? Thanks , George

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

George,
I have most of my brugs in full sun, but the heat and humidity has been horrible here this week so I just moved some of them into shade a couple of days ago. This one had a bloom that the calyx cooked around the bud. I figured I better try to save her other buds if I could. I have very few blooms right now, but they are all budding up so if the weather will cooperate, I should have lots of blooms before long. I think as long as you are feeding them and giving them adequate water, you should be okay. Sometimes the heat will stop bud growth. I had a CG last summer that put on lots of buds in August, early. They just sat there, no matter what I did to try and push them to grow. Finally after our first frost, those same little buds bloomed. I thought they would at least drop off, but they hung in there. She was beautiful, but I only got one flush of flowers for the whole summer. On a lot of my plants it was that way last year. Very disappointing summer for me.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thats awesome shirley
did you polinate it with anything?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oops.......no I didn't pollinate her. Haven't the slightest idea what to use. Will have more blooms opening tomorrow, so it isn't too late. What would you put on her Karyn?

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Brugie, you made me feel better.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful Shirley!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, beautiful, Shirley. It sure is different.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone. She sure is a great smeller. Smells very similar to V. Orange. Strong and sweet.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'd use something with long tendrils......

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow, that's really beautiful ! It sure is different.
I love the doubles.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This is a picture of her from last year in October. Okay, something with longer tendrils, but what about color? I don't have anything that is in the peach or orange range with long tendrils.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Please tell me how you could improve it? It is beautiful the way it is.........

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't think the idea is to improve it, but to try to get something double from it that might be a little different. I'm totally happy with this one the way it is.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can't wait till mine blooms. I wonder if it was crossed with Cream sickle if it would help with what ails CS. I have had a least 100 CS bloms in htis last flush and only pollinated about 4. I just can't keep up with all these brugs. I really need to win the lottery and quit work!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

What ails creamsickle????

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I think it pretty Brugie! How is it looking today? Still the same?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It is starting to get a little color on the inner skirt today. We are cloudy right now, still hot and humid, but severe storms are predicted for our area today, so who knows what it will look like by tonight.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

CC, I hear she does not turn color for people in the heat.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Really?

I admitt mine has bloomed in the fall and winter and had WONDERFUL color

But due to my gracefulness(LOL) I broke off both sides of the Y's in 2 seperate incidences
So I have'nt seen a bloom in a while and never in the summer

Maybe she'll bloom this summer.....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It looks funny doesn't it Brugie? It sure does look like a petticoat.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Wow! That is differant, but I kinda like it...

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Yes very different and interesting. I think it very pretty with the skirt a different color, probably will look like your last years soon or the next flower. Donna

CHARITON, IA(Zone 5a)

Shirley, look down on the ground closely - bet you will find your answer. A little orange puddle in the grass - it is so stinking hot and humid here that the color just dripped out!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I need to kick my self. I still have it in a 1 gal pot. Gonna make myself get her potted up to a big blue tub this week. I want blooms on her before winter
