This is a picture (that does not do her justice) of Oat, my mentally challenged cat, who is eight years old.
She has always had a problem with occasionally urinating where she should not however since she is mentally challenged training has proved a waste of time. As she gets older her inappropriate urinating has gotten out of control. She now pees on any cloth on the floor. Consequently we cannot have a bath rug down and recently she has peed on the hearth (I guess she thinks it is a carpet). I had the floor rugs sent out for cleaning as she had peed on them so many times I could not get the smell out with a regular carpet cleaner.
We have recognized her behavior is getting worse – she only used to do this occasionally – now it is every time we drop a towel or accidentally leave the bath rug down. I am concerned about putting the carpets down again.
Note she does this in the downstairs rooms even those with the cat litter box and never defecates just pees. She sometimes pees in the corners of my daughters rooms on a towel left on the floor.
Researching solutions: Leaving her outside all the time is out – she doesn’t understand it and cries all the time. So I resorted to leaving her out half the time to reduce the opportunity. We have a nice private patio and yard. In winter it is just plain cruel.
I read about Feliway…..has anyone tried it? How did you use it?
I don’t want to have this cat put down – she is so simple minded but very healthy and endearing. Help!
