Check out my yellow ruffles!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Wow I really like that ruffled yellow Gretchen

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen: I really like your brug with its ruffles and color change - and you say it's fragrant too! I hope this one turns out to be a keeper for you even if it never gets a name.

Just so I am clear on the 'rules' - is it OK to trade unnamed brugs, as long as both parties are clear that the plant is not a named variety? If you receive seeds and the hybridizer requests that any seedlings not worthy of being named should not be traded, I think we should respect that. But what if you already have an unnamed brug of unknown origin? I do agree that one should not assume a brug is 'Dr Seuss', for instance, just because it kinda looks like Dr. S - that will just lead to confusion! I would never trade a brug (or any other plant) as a named variety unless I am certain the identification is accurate. And to know the ID is accurate it has to be a plant that was acquired from a reputable source and whose appearance is consistent with what the plant is "supposed" to look like. (We could get off on a tangent here about how 'reputable sources' make mistakes too :-). As long as everyone on this forum plays by the same rules we should be OK.

Oh Sherry, I didn't realize the "white-pink" was the one you bought on the side of the road -- what a treasure you found!

Tom: Thank you. I'm very happy with it, expecially considering the horrendous conditions my brugs have had to withstand between the rain and the 100 degree temps. And, this one is an ugly plant, as some creature ate off all the leaves...

As for trading unamed plants, I am under the impression that it is frowned upon. From what I can ascertain, you can give them away to people you know very well and trust, but I think the brug professionals would prefer that we don't do that and that un-named brugs either become named, or get destroyed. Personally, I don't have any un-named brugs (my seedlings are un-named, but I know the crosses) and I don't want any un-named brugs. I know that's probably not important to some people, but to many people here, it is. If I had a brug of unknown origin that I happened to love, I would keep and enjoy it, but not share it except with a really good friend that I trusted not to propagate it. When you trade, you might not always "know" who you're dealing with... This is just my opinion. Gretchen :)

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

Wow gretchen you are becoming a brug queen your self with al these seedlings blooming way to go!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Amanda! I am sure having a good time with them all! How's little JN doing? I sure hope she made it for you!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Yep, Gretchen, 'whitie' was the 'rescue' brug I bought on the side of the road, such a pitiful sight, but perked right up when I put it in the cool car and gave it some of my Golden's water. I was told it was white and it has a plastic tag that says, white. Honestly, you cannot imagine how shocked I was when it turned out, from the get go, to be pink!!! It had really short, fat, green buds, with small leaves - then, all of a sudden, out pops these big, long PINK blossom, the only thing it lacks is smell, but you can bet 'pinkie' is here to stay!! Also, my original brug has started to bloom, from the bottom up, who knew??!! Last year, it was light orange, or apricot - but this year it too is PINK, but has large light colored leaves and is already 10 feet tall and is here to stay too......I agree with Amanda, you are brug queen material and well on your way!!!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

You two are too kind -- I'll don't believe I'll ever be on that level! But I sure am having fun with all these babies!

Sherry -- keep your pictures coming! You need to start some threads with your lovelies...we all want to see them!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Ah hmmm, Gretch, there are all kinds of queens, ya know, LOL, and you are our (newbie class of 2004) best bet as advanced, newbie queen - we will all be pulling for you!! I fully intended to send pics of my original light orange or apricot brug, now pink. However, I had to put my 88.08 year old daddy in the hospital and by the time I got home, the rain had beaten off the precious ((PINK)) blooms. As soon as my daddy is well enough, I'm bringing him home to live with us, my daddy is a real keeper and I look forward to him working the brugs with me. Daddy grows Ripley's Believe It or Not sized green onions, so he will be earning his keep!!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

SherryLike,

I hope your Daddy gets to come home to you real soon.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh Sherry...I'm so sorry about your Daddy being sick! I'll put him in my prayers! And sorry you are having more yucky rain...we could use an inch or so right now. We went from overly wet (I ended up losing three brugs to all the wet ground), to dry and parched. I have big cracks in my barnyard, and am going to have to get my immedate yard back on a sprinkler schedule. It looked like we'd get some earlier, but the chance is long since past. Anyway, you take care of yourself, and I hope you get to bring your Daddy home really soon!!! Hugs, Gretchen

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gosh, Gretch and Kath, youse are truly sweeties and you would absolutely love my daddy, he's pretty cute, and he would adore you two!!! I sincerely appreciate your well wishes - thank you so very much!!!!!!!!!

Here's the second bloom, taken this morning. Much more pink, but the shape is rather funky, don't you think?

Do you think it might be a double?? Whatever, it's very pretty, such a sweet, feminine color...

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

No Sherry, its definitely not a double, just a nice little pink brug with yellow tendrils. I sure hope her shape inproves with age. And, thank you for your kind words!
