It is from one of the trades I got last year and I can tell you it is one of my favourites, already. I was out of town that day when my daughter took the camera and shot this picture which I came to know only when I saw the prints. She wanted to surprise me!
MG red star,
Dinu, that is nice. I have a similiar one, but it is the mt. fuji.
What a beauty Dinu!
very pretty! at least she got the camera and you didn't totally miss it huh? What a wonderful daughter!!!
I had planted seeds just before our rainy season and those were the wonderful blooms. I planted a few more about 6 weeks later and gave a few remaining seeds to my friend. Now, the second plantings from the same batch is not doing what was expected. What could the reason be? The leaves too are not that good-looking. But I have collected the seeds from my plant from the 3 plants that 'did well' and have planted a few at the same site where the drying vine still is. The seeds were sent in a packet from the US in a trade. May be the difference in growing zones could have affected this phenomenon? I have observed that the subsequent batch seeds do a little better. May be the genes in it takes time to acclimatize?
Dinu, wow that is very pretty. I am growing "Hige", from seed my daughter shared with me that you had sent her. It has not bloomed for me yet but hopefully it will soon. I think it will be a pretty pink to, do you have any of the "Hige" growing this year?
What other Morning Glories are you growing Dinu?
:o)

i haven't gotten into MGs yet, but it's just a matter of time. This one will definitely be a MUST GET. beautiful!
Very beautiful color Dinu.
WW, that is so heartening to hear! Yes, the "Hige" is in bloom this time too, but since I have put them in a place with a richer soil, it has grown much longer and higher and there are many blooms at present. :{ I have only words to describe... in the absence of a digital camera.
The other MGs I have now is the Scarlet O'Hara, .... I have to squeeze my brain to remember the names.... wait.. pause... one is growing for the first time that was named "heavenly blue" - this one has a blue [more towards purple] having magenta lines on the petals - lovely; then Ipomoea "wawie" or something.. not sure - it is almost like scarlet o'hara, but pink; then another white one that has purple lines on its petals.
I am growing the red japanese moonflower too - quite pretty.
BTW, may I know who on earth [DG] shared the "Hige" with you - nice to know you are my "trader's mother"?
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, things have very been busy....
The person that shared your seeds with me is Moonlighting, she is quite a fan of yours and loves all your flowers. She and I usually share what seed we get from people we trade with.
Maybe when the time comes to share seeds I will find a way to get some of our beautiful Japanese MG seeds your way. I know you would enjoy growing them as much as we have. They have all been real beautiful flowers every single one of them. I know some are very delicate and don't stand up to heat and wind at all but if the conditions could be changed a bit and they could have some protection then they would be worth the time to grow them, they certainly are pretty enough...........

This is a Japanese Morning Glory that is a total surprise, it is one that you would have expected to fall off the vine at the first hint of sun. Yet it is planted where it is in full sun from early morning until almost 2 pm and it is hot here right now. I think the high today was 96 and the humidity is 66 percent.......so what do you think of this white, oh and it is almost 5 inches across too......
The name is Heian no Kaori..........

Oh..SORRY..
thye said after I tried to post the first one it was busy and I had to reload the site and try again.. so I did as I didn't see it on the site when I checked.. but now there are both of them...
SO...The first photos were from my roof garden.. I've also planted some Mt. Fugi in a planter on the street.. I'm growing them up a string trellis maybe 10' tall and forming a little awaning over the doorway.. I've also formed a single string up 45' to m y window... I'm conducting a raffle as to how high up this verticle string the plant will gow before frost or whenever it stops growing... guess all guesses should start at about 15'.. the current height... prizes will be seeds... if there are any... the flowers are just starting on the street/trellis but here's one of the early stages of it

The plants grown from seeds of the above set of vine do have some change in colouring and pattern, not as distinct as the ones above. Why does this slight mutation happen?
