When I arrived at work today I felt really really bad. Tummy/barfy-etc.
After about 15 minutes I decided to go home. While waiting on my ride I was sitting down talking to Dori and I heard a pop and went BLIND. Couldnt see at all- then I had tunnel vision. I could hear her talking to me but it sounded like it was a mile away.
Mum took me to the hospital (we were there from 12:00 to 7:30 )- They did cat scans and blood work.
Everything came back alright?! I know something isnt right- but they said I was fine. THIS is why I don't go to doctors. They tell you you're fine when you know you arent. Normal people dont go blind, hear a pop in their brain and nearly pass out!
The total time I was being checked out was probably no more than 30/35 minutes. The rest of the time I was waiting to be seen and then waiting for them to come back. They wouldnt even tell my mum what was going on- she waited all alone knowing nothing about the state of my condition. Isnt life grand? :-)
While I was away SOMEONE let Taborri out of her room. She's gone now. Ugh- you cant win for losing in this world.
How was YOUR day? lol
What a Day :-(
I hope you will be following this up with your Doctor and an MRI?
I am glad your vision returned but you are correct in saying this type of incident is not normal. There are so many things that could cause it that more than a CAT Scan is needed!
Oh, shoot, Kiddo! I agree with Zanymuse. They rushed you through, sounds like.
Please follow up with your regular dr or someone. I hate drs too (just ask Jennifer) but for everyone else please go get checked.
You might ask your eye doctor about opthalmic migraines. I've had 3 in the last 40 years and my symptoms were similar.
Edited to add, my ER tests showed NOTHING either. Only later my eye doctor put his finger on the answer.

Oh jeez...that WAS a bad day..I hope things are better today. Sorry about your baby, Taborri, being let loose. I know how upsetting that must have been on top of everything else.
Hope your alright, update us when you can.
Root.
I didn't think about occular migraines, but that's a good point, Darius. When I get mine I don't have tunnel vision, but get blank spots in my field of vision, like only seeing half a face when looking at someone nearby. They can make you feel really nauseated, too, though usually after the pain sets in.
How are you doing today, Tsavo?
When it happened there wasnt any pain at all. Just a POP and then blindess. Hmm- does a migrane always cause pain? I felt the pop more than I heard it.
I had headaches afterwards while we were at the doctor- but that might have been stress related. (too many people in too small a place).
On a lighter note- I found Taborri- she's fine and was happy to see mum,LOL.
Thank you guys. (((hugs)))
tsavo. So glad to hear you are better. With regard to migranes and pain, no they do not always cause pain. Some of the symptoms are numbness on face and hand, inability to talk or form words ( just garbled speech),'cobwebs' in vision as GW said, and sometimes a headache.Laying down and being quiet seems to help as it goes away in time. There are some medications which seem to lessen the attacks.Hope Taborri enjoyed her trip and is happy to be back home.
Good heavens,Jocelyn! Hope all is well. I tried to return your call last night, but only got a busy signal. Your Mom didn't say a word this morning when I called...and I hadn't seen this thread until now or I would have asked. (((HUGS))) if I can help out let me know.
Ginger- mum didnt tell you cause she didnt know that I was telling people.
Thank you for offering to help. ((((((((hugs))))))))
I've been out of work since I went to the ER. Going back this weekend I guess. Everyone I talk to tells me to get a second opinion, I guess it would be smart- but it costs so much money. I cant even pay the bills I've racked up at the ER. Upsets me so much that I have to pay for the horrible treatment I received.
Oh well, that's life. :-(
Get thy buns to a doctor, honey. Your eyes are nothing to mess with.
I really hope everything is alright, crimson. I do agree that you need to go to another doctor. I would recommend going to a neurologist. Too bad they all cost so darn much!! Good luck.
Claire
crimson, I had blinding headaches and severe pain in my rt. eye for a while. They finally MRI'd it to anyurism (SP?) Then angiogram etc. Well my right eye is half closed most of the time but the pain is gone and it probably won't kill me soon. I'm relying on Camels for that. Please get MRI. They cost about 1g. If you don't value your life that much, consider how many DGer's would be so mad if you died for something stupid. How about "Keeping the Wolves at bay fund". Most of us will send 10 bucks to anything.
I am so very- speechless. Thank you so much Frank. God truly has placed special angels on this earth in the form of every day joes/janes. ((((((((hugs))))))))
We'll figure something out. (me and mum) so don't worry! I don't own anything (in my name anyway) so I can get medical help- they can't toss me in jail for not paying! I can always send a little each month. Just feel shady for not paying up front ya know?
The Lord takes care of his children and I must trust in him.
(((((((((((((((((((hugs all of you guys)))))))))))))))))))))
crimson, check with your hospital. We are paying a 1500 bill at 45/month. The hospital is cool with that and they charge 0% interest. It's like a big loan from a friend. If you go in they have to fix you and are grateful if you want to set up a payment plan. Lots of people never pay, so they love anyone with good intentions. Most of the people who work there couldn't afford a 1g hit either, so they want to help you.Keep us rubber-neckers informed. How are Tab and Tak?
Thanks Frankay!
Oh they are doing very well. Mad at me though! I put them in their cage and only let them out for play time! LOL
It's a zoo around here I tell ya. I gotta downsize,LOL.
You have birds?
My only birds are volumes of gold finches that get very upset if I forget to refill the feeders. Down at Sebago Lake my mom sits with a dish of sunflower seeds on the lawn chair and is suprised at chickadees landing on her toes or knitting needles. My gold finches will land on a feeder I just filled while I'm under them filling another. They know.
Bids are so funny at times, lol. We have titmice that follow us around tittering. Wrens and finches too. The wild jays like to try and poo on your head. :-) Oh SO much fun. LOL
Please don't let this scare you, but this is more serious then you seem to think. This may not have anything to do with your eyes but may very well have to do within your head. I am being totally serious. the pop you heard could be in the brain itself and this is something that needs to be checked out throughly immediately. We recently lost my XMIL and the symptoms you just described, all of them, from the nausea on down, were exacatly what she described was happening to her. Please do not push this aside. This is serious.
Oh, boyo - Tombstonejan is RIGHT! Please do look into this immediately!
I know it's Saturday. Are you going to call? Tell me monday night that you called and have an appointment..Your nagging pseudo bro, Frank.
lol Frank,
I am going to make an appointment with Life Management (where the po folks go!) lol. Hopefully they will take care of this for me. I feel tons better so don't worry. :)
Egads Jan- just saw your post! Im making my appointment so everything will be alright!
Good Girl! I won't go into too much detail but the pop she felt ended up being a blood vessel with turned into a much more serious situation very quickly. She was fine all day. Ate dinner, said she felt nauseated went to the bedroom and went to take her shoes off when she felt the pop.
Please take care and see a doctor very soon.
Will do, thank you. ((((hugs))))
crim, for pete's sake, I just found this!! How are you? Can I do anything? Let me know what is going on and when you go to the Dr. Come by here, maybe we can cheer you up!
Don't let one bad experience at the ER keep you from getting the help you need. This doesn't sound like something you should wait about getting care for. Go get another opinion and another one and another one until you're satisfied that you have a correct diagnosis. I'll pitch in, too, if that's what it takes to get you well. Your health is far more important than any amount of money.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeee
Dont worry guys. Thank you for all your kind replies.
I have MIGRANES!!! Yay!! lol. Not dying here.
((((((((hugs))))))))) :-D
I am so glad to hear it's a manageable illness Crims. The relief has got to make you feel so much better!
:^))
Molly
Yuppers molly!! Thanks. :D
Holy Moly! Something wasn't right there! Things like that don't happen unless something is wrong.
Ahhhhhh - Migraines? I know Russ gets those, and gets the tunnel vision thing going, but has never gone blind from them.
Try the feverfew, and if that doesn't work, email me. My dad just got on a prescription for his migraines he's suffered from all his life, and found something that finally works. Yep - he got the pukies and and feeling horrid - he went through ALOT all his life until 2 years ago, he switched doctors, and his new doctor (a woman) has a husband that gets them too. I posted the name of it awhile back on the Health and Beauty Forum, but on the top of my head right now, can't remember the name of the drug. But - it finally gave my dad relief. He's happy, active, and has had no side effects.
I am so happy to hear that it's not as serious as I thought it might be. I was just so worried as you had the same exact symptoms as my XMIL. I happy that you are going to be fine.
I'm sorry if I scared you but its better to know then not to know. Take care of yourself and stress is the worst thing for migraines so Don't Stress Yourself Out. Ya Here?
I care
Jan
Y'all are the sweetest people alive. (((((((hugs))))))
Sometimes people need to be scared Jan! So dont apologize. XoXOoxooooooooooooooo
Thank you for the information Karrie. XoXoXooooooooo
Crims, Cafergot is the prescription I take for the pesky migrains. Probably not the newest or best, but it usually works. There are a number of remedys(or remedies:)) out there so something is going to help. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
(((((((((((((thanks)))))))))))))
Here's the stuff my dad takes:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?objectid=4007618B-0E51-46C3-B4FD07882A4672DD
Miagraines certainly do affect people differently. I've had the pop in my head many times. Usually just before the headache subsided. I've also gone somewhat blind, been paralysed on one side or in one hand/arm/leg, etc. I lost several babies because of Cafergot. The ergotomine in it caused spontaneous abortions at about 2-3 months of the pregnancy. I use to have to take it at least weekly, sometimes daily. When I was pregnant with our youngest son I read in Ladies Home Journal about it doing this and that preganant women should not be taking it. My family doctor said he never even thought about it and was very contrite. He put me on the same regiem I still use for miagraines. 2 Excedrins + 1 extra strength Tylenol as soon as I feel any symptoms. Of course I use generic now but Excedrin was new back then. After 39 years it still works fine.
What you had could also have been a TIA(mild stroke that lasts less than 24 hours and supposedly has no lasting after effects).
The way companies market stuff kills me...
Extra Strength Excedrin's main ingredients:
Acetaminophen, 250 mg ---- Same thing as Tylenol
Aspirin, 250 mg
Caffeine, 65 mg
Excedrin Migraine's main ingredients:
....See above! Yeah.
Tylenol is acetaminophen...So get yourself generic acetaminophen, some aspirin and a good cup of coffee. ;)
