Very nice Alice..........could we see a close up of the bloom?

Magnificant! And you can make the cross one year, and get blooms the next? Does this require having a greenhouse and no dormant period?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Alice!! Good to see you. I miss your great pics on the brug forum! I hope you are taking them and planning to delight us this winter when you are not so busy!

Are all these from seed from one flower or from one seed that was grown and then divided?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Even in Iowa, with a short growing season, I can collect seed. Plant it no earlier than Feb. 1st or they get leggy, and will have lots of bloom before the summer is over, from that seed. I love growing cannas from seed. You could easily do the same John. Now, if I could just come up with an easier way to get the tubers out of the ground in the fall. It is a big job. I'll bet Alice could give me some shortcuts to how to do a lot of things with Cannas. LOL!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Veeeeeeeeeeery nice! Good job!! Would love to see a close up of the flower when you get a chance!

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Seedlings will be trialed awhile and evaluated to see how they do before deciding if good.

Alice..nice white seedlings in the first pic....I use to visit Rosalind Sarver in San Marcos calif. Before she died at 90 something she was still crossing and growing cannas to get new forms. She had a white called Arctic White that was a short form that was almost pure white without yellow.Keep up the good work!!! :-)

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Alice, very nice! I like the pristine look of the white.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow, Abutilon, they are truly gorgeous! Nice job!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Beautiful!

You are soooo good!

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

This one is is the 2nd from the left.

Kyle..
I have heard of Artic White. Don't have it though.
I would have like to known Mrs. Sarver. Everyone I know who knew here loved her.
Many of the white cannas have a tinge of yellow when first blooming and earlier summer. Into summer they will bloom good "white".

Root..
Japanese Beetles are 3/8" metallic brown colour beetles.
The female lands and the males come flying in. While one is busy with her, the others wait in line for a turn. And they all eat ..except the busy guy ..he can't reach to eat! Each little female and group can take a leaf down in no time.
Individuals attack the flowers more. These beetles really like the white canna flowers. I use systemics when I see, but still get some coming. So try to get those with something else. But it's hard to keep up.
Have not seen these on my brug flowers yet ..and hope NEVER!

Tracey ..
good to see you, too (o: Your brugs here are growing good.
So much to do this year, when I have gotten pix, no time to send them. I will try to do better. And will try to stay in touch better.

Kyle, your red Cleo here has done great (o:Got some good pix and will try to post soon. Also, will talk to you more soon. Seedlings are coming along (o:

Good to see everyone else, too (o:
Thanks (o:

Alice, you would have had such a great time with Rosalind. She would just phone me from Calif out of the blue and talk about plants. She was without a doubt one of the true great Plantswomen of Calif and no doubt the country. She was hailed the "Queen of Cannas" in southern Calif. She loved her plants so much.Kept her going.I named a brug (yellow) after her when she died.I gave her a brug for her office yard a couple of years before she died. She had never seen one and had daturas wild in the yard before that. She planted it next to the office door so she could enjoy the fragrance when it bloomed.Too bad the children sold off the plants and the land for a housing project shortly after she died. They had acres of cannas and tons of azaleas that they sold. She had about 49 varieties available at the end.I didn't get an arctic white. At the time it didn't impress me as much as some of her other kinds.I met her through a suggestion by a local hobbyist in San Diego. He had clumps of beautiful colored cannas and I stopped by the house ,knocked on the door and asked him where he found these colors. He told me and the friendship with her started there. :-) I miss her when I go west on vacation :-(
