I don't have each brug's name handy, so I'm just posting pictures for now. Life has been happening fast and furious, so I don't have them all in the ground yet, but they're all healthy in their pots and in the ground alike. Two of them I did plant in the ground by by our front steps and driveway.
These pictures were taken on June 25. I need to take updated ones.
I have a question for you guys, too. When I worked at J&P I got a case of little 8oz shaker containers of their Green & Grow plant food at a warehouse sale; I still have several canisters left. It's 5-10-5.
Would this be good for the brugs? I also have some generic Miracle Gro. Should I use the Green & Grow, the Miracle Gro, or both?
Does it make a difference which fertilizer I use for brugs in pots versus in the ground?

Progress report...You guys are the greatest
Looking good, gardenwife.
Thanks, ahelms. I just edited my first post and added a question. Would you take a peek up there? :)
THIS is where I envision many brugs next year. So far, the Spectracide has killed the English ivy. We're going to wait until next season to plant anything, just in case! Can't you just see a long row (or two) of brugs?
The driveway's going to be 18-24" lower than the embankment once we build up the bed there, so we'll be looking up into the blooms.
OMG, I sound like one of you! :)
LOL GW! YES, I can visualize a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG row of brugs there! LOL. We got ya! LOL
Re fertilizer: generally you want a low middle number. I wouldn't use your first one. I use MG but there are better ones. But I find my thrive on whatever! I even use 16-16-16 cheapo at HD.
OOh, good to know. I'll use the other on my other beds, then.
That should look great next year. I hope that ivy doesn't just take a short snooze and come back up. LOL! You are doing great with your new addiction.
Yay, GW, looking really, really good! We really got you now, didn't we? That drive of brugs would look fabulous!
They look great! Your drive will be stunning Im sure!
Looks like a bud below it to the right.
I'm not sure about that one, but like Bob says, below it, probably right in the Y, it looks like one peeking out.
Kim- It's a bud. Halo had small buds when I sent it to you. My mother plant of this has been in bloom all season now.
La la la! Happiness!
I'll have to get better pictures and really look at all my brugs. Do any of you have links to pictures which show what brug buds look like at various stages?
I've never seen Halo. At least I don't remember it.
Me neither, Brugie. What is in that curled leaf next to your pink circle, GW? Do I see antennae?
Hi,
I'm Steve. My title was "socially insensitive" Steve when I was on the Aquaponics list. I don't mean to be, but when I see something I see as not making a lot of sense, I tend to "spout off".
I am, in no way, knocking your joy at seeing your Brug seeds sprout. BUT WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!!?? Do you just enjoy the nurturing side of planting or what??If you do, this is wonderful...
Again, I don't want to step on your toes, but if you want to propogate Brugs, why don't you just do it via cuttings? I've been doing Brugs for a "grand total" of about 4 months now and I have an overabundance of them. (I cheat though...I have a 2,000 gal aquaponic system.) I simply clip the new growth and place it in my growbeds and "wallah" a new plant within 1 - 2 weeks.
Just a thought.......Steve
lolol!
Congratulations Kim! Cant wait to see it bloom!
Hi, Steve. Gee, I think you may have earned your title. ;)
Where have I said I am propogating brugs, let alone from seed? Nowhere that I've seen. I am new to brugs, but not to gardening. I received brug seedlings and rooted cuttings from several friends here at DG and am learning about them as I go. I have not seen immature flower buds on brugs yet, so I posted here.
I also enjoy macro photography and noticing the minutiae in life, in the plant kingdom and elsewhere. Questions? :)

Kell, I don't think there's any antennae. Might be a side-view of a new leaf coming out.

Hi Steve! Welcome to the Brug Forum. I do not get your comment. Are you talking about why would GW or anyone propagate by seed? I must ask you, why not? Don't you get bored with starting the same old brugs over and over again?
LOL GW, soon you too will be a seed starter! It is so much fun! And I am not just referring to all the great sex my brugs have with so many hot partners! LOL
LOL, actually I used good old Irfanview. I used the "insert text" tool and typed a letter "O", making the font 110pt. It took a few tries to get it centered over the bud, but I finally got it! Just didn't feel like messing with Photoshop for a quick picture.
Oh, nooooo....That was a leg, I think. Ack, aphid maybe? Must go out and look by flashlight, LOL!
About seeds...That's the only way to hybridize new brugs, anyway, right? So again, why not?
"My title was "socially insensitive" Steve when I was on the Aquaponics list. I don't mean to be, but when I see something I see as not making a lot of sense, I tend to "spout off"."
Well welcome Steve to your grand total of 4 month milestone! Im sure alot here can explain sensitively and with out spouting off to you exactly it makes sense to them.
This is the best I can do sensitively.

Yes GW. To get new brugs you must cross pollinate and harvest the seeds and then nurture them. LOL. I guess you could sit a spell and hope for a viable sport to create a new one. You may be sitting for quite a while. LOL
I have never had an aphid on a brug, GW. I have them on my rose buds at times and they just love my hibiscus, but never on my brugs! I wonder why? I use palmolive in water in a hand sprayer and that kills them dead. I rarely have to spray my roses twice for them.
Leave it to me to get aphids on a brug! Man, I'd better toddle off to bed for the morning. *yawn*
Good eye Kell and nice photo GW.
Steve,please.......
I could never be happy raising the same old brugs over and over without adding new ones to my garden every year and I don't want more than one of any kind unless it is one that I would be concerned about losing, so I guess I don't understand why anyone would make lots of cuttings of the same plant unless they are to be sold or traded. It certainly doesn't take an aquaponic system to root brugs. I can root them in a week to ten days in potting soil. Growing brugs from seed is a challenge and always a surprise since you never know what the first blooms will look like. You should give it a try Steve. Variety is the spice of life.

So what's the big deal here ? Chop off a chunk, stick it in some water or moist planting medium ...... Viola ! ! ! You have 'another ' of the same plant.
Brugie, I stuck some sprouts I removed into the damp soil out back by the 'dry well' , it worked =)
THEN ............. I stuck my culled seedlings out there instead of the compost pile. All I did was stab a hole and heel them in , now they're growing too. I think most of them still have tags with them , it will be interesting to see which ones fare the best WITHOUT supplemental feeding, water or bug juice. There is a marked difference in them already .
I LOVE experimentzzz !
