Please Please tell me this is a Y. I have been watching this grow and was wondering if I am gettting a Y on the plants. There is the same thing coming on the back side too but not as big as this one. My brug has really grown and is very hearthy looking. If it gets much taller will have to remove it from under the tent. LOL Going to my daughters for a few days so will check to see your answers when I get back unless I can figure out how to get my mail from her pc.

Are you referring to the side shoot just above your fingers? I believe that's a sucker or shoot, however you want to refer it it, but I'm definitely no expert... Sorry. Someone will come along here and answer for sure. Gretchen
I had the hardest time determining what a Y was until mine started y'ing. Here's an illustration of what a typical y will look like when it happens. Hope this is helpful :) Gretchen

Sami, the best way to tell is if it has a double set of tiny new leaves. If it is not a y there will be two tiny leaves at the tip, if it is, there will be 4 tiny leaves. Just my own personal observation...
Sorry Sami, just an off shoot. The Y will be at the top of each of the long trunks.
Also you can check the leaves to see if they are uneven.....

It won't be long now. Usually those Y's show up and are throwing buds before you even notice them.
I sure hope you are right Shirley. I am putting my baby in the hands of my DH for the next few days. I sure hope he takes good care of it while I am gone. I have threatened him with his life. LOL. I will be staying at my daughters house while they take a trip to Canada to show our grandson to his other grandparents. I will have to baby her brug she has. It does not look to healthy. She has her hands full with the our grandson. I am really going to miss him, they are going to be gone for 10 days and I don't know how I am going to stand being away from him and my brug. LOL
Will check back in about 10 days and see how everyone is doing.

Crestedchik I am not going. It is my daughter and her husband and the baby. I am house sitting for them them in Norfok, Va. But thanks for the invite. If I ever go that way will certainly try to drop by. We usually fly to Canada though. Our SIL wanted us to go with them in September but had to decline because of our home should be ready to move in by then. At least I hope so.

I went out this morning to spray my plant before I go to Norfolk and found a tiny yellow spider on it. Have seen some holes in the leaves and was wondering if I need to use something stronger than the peroxide, water and soap mixture. Should I mist it every day to make sure not bugs, or can you spray it too much. Going to mix up some for DH to spray on it while I am gone and some fertilizer. Found a place to get the Ap and will pick it up this morning.
Has anyone ever used Chicken Poop. My daughter uses it on her plants and they look really good.

I was wondering if I should take off the shoot and try to root it and how will I go about doing that. Will it hurt the plant?

Sami: I did that a bunch with my cuttings as they sent shoots. Just make a clean cut close to the tree trunk (stalk), dip the end of the shoot in some rooting hormone, then plant it in some moistened, soiless potting medium, and place it in a protected, shady location until its rooted. It should happen very quickly this time of year. The base of that shoot is full of meristematic tissue and shoots are the easiest of all cuttings to get started in my opinion. Good luck! Gretchen

When you say soiless you mean like perilite or vermiculite? Sorry I am pretty green when it comes to some things about gardening. I dont think I even spelled it right. LOl

Sami...brugie talked about a soiless mix in another post I think it was...there is something called Pro-Mix that she uses...says its bark and a few other ingredients!
Sami, a lot of nurseries use soilless mixes to grow their plants from seedlings up to selling size. It is much less messy that regular soil and soaks up the water easily. It does dry out faster though. The thing about brugs, especially when they are small, is that they don't like wet feet and the soilless mixes don't allow them to remain wet. It stays damp, but drains well and with the bark, perlite, etc. mixed in it, it allows air to the roots easily. I've never had a problem with root rot in soilless mix but have had in garden soil in rainy springs. The biggest problem with soilless mixes is that there is little to no nutrients in it, so you do have to remember to feed often. Once the roots go out the bottom of the pot into the garden soil, the plants do get some nourishment from the soil, but I continue to feed until it gets so hot I just can't do it. There are many kinds of soilless mix. Ball puts out a good one that I really liked until our nursery changed to ProMix and I can't get it now. I'm sure your brug would do fine in Miracle Grow potting mix. It is probably soilless too. I've not had it or read the label. Peters also makes a good soilless mix, but it doesn't have as much bark in it and is better for hanging baskets in my opinion.
Thanks Brugie I do have Miracle Grow Potting mix. I will try it in that. I will be going to our place in Nc tomorrow to check on my Brug. Don't trust my DH to take good care of it. LOL.
I checked on my daughters Brug today and it has a mushroom looking growth coming up from the stalk at the soil line. What is that? I don't have my digital here with me and was wondering what it is. We have had tons of rain here for the past four days. It sure looks like mushrooms to me. Only it is growing like it is attached to the stalk.

It's probably a toad stool of some kind. I've had them in a couple of mine this year that I put mulch in.
Yeah Shirley that is what it looks like. Should I just leave them there, will it hurt the plant.

I just knocked mine over so they would quit growing. Haven't seen anymore since.
I am so excited!!!!! I had to go to my sisters and take care of her while she had surgery and was gone for three weeks. When I got back the first thing I did was go and look at my brug and I couldn't believe it. I have 11 pods on the brug. Will take some pictures tomorrow when the sun is up so everyone can see. Yepee.....

Oh boy, you are getting pretty close now. Can't wait to see those buds pop open. Hope your back is getting better. Take it easy. When you see that first bloom, you might just throw the back out again.
My Brug has doubled in size since the first of June, I sure hope the truck we use to move our things to the new house will hold it when I get ready to move. It is about 30 miles from here and I might just have to carry it bad back or not. LOL

You are probably right Brugie. I am so excited and anxious to see what color it is going to be. I can see a little of it peeping through now on one of the buds. It looks white right now but will wait and see. Will someone be able to identify it when it blooms? Will get some pictures when it blooms. As for as my back it is getting a little better but it has really been a slow process. I still can't straighten up yet or stand on my feet very long. Seeing a Chiroprator 2 times a day. Can see a little improvement.

shirley my daughter bought the brug for me at a nursery. I checked with the nursery and she said they came from Florida. that is all I know about it.

Oh shoot. It may be a generic brug that can't be named. A lot of nurseries only deal with white, pink, yellow, and peach on their tags.
Well the tag like I said before just said aborea brug. And like everyone told me before it could not be arborea. After a lot of research I also decided it was not an arborea because it does not have real fuzzy leaves. Oh well will see what it looks like anyway and hopefully next year can get some starts from other places.
