The crazy things we do....

Just get out the camera!

No doubt! The camera's a kid-magnet! :D Click, click, crowd around saying, "oooh, let me see!".

Well, here is the pond today with most of the plants in it. I am not putting the rocks around the edge until I put the filter the way I want it. I am going to sink it into the ground so the water from the pond flows into it, through the pump and back out through a creek bed and back into the pond. I hope to get that done this weekend.

Looks good, wish I had your energy!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Looking gooooooooooooooooood BS!!! Wow- it's so nice.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Energy? I gave up on weight LOSS so all this work is at least good for maintenance! LOL Now I just have to find the right rocks-cheap or free-actually thinking about building a form and making some. :)

This is what I did with the area where the garden, veggie filter and canal were (at the end of the old pond). Story here: http://davesgarden.com/t/442619/

You did know that I live on a rock farm?

LOL

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

*Envies Mellisa* We dont have rocks here!!! :-(( Waaaaaaaaaaaa

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

LOL you wouldn't envy me if everytime you wanted to dig somewhere you ran into a HUGE rock! LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, got any decent sized flat ones?? LOL I know what I want but can't pay $40 per rock. :)

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Here is one we dug up a few weeks ago. Hasn't made it out of the yard yet, it's heavy, I can't lift it. It's about 3 or 4 inches thick, and I put my shoe on it to give you an idea of the size.

Here are a couple that were friends with the one above.
Put them together, and they're about the size of the one up there. "Shoerock"

Here are the remainder of the rocks from that particular dig, that I used to try to block one of the dogs from getting out with the cows.

It's like that everytime we try to dig near the house. We have an empty well that we FILLED with these kind of rocks...
told ya, I live on a rock farm! :-)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Melissa! Lillie's preschool teacher that lives by the power plant, said they are built on top of some rock mine too. She also said they wouldn't dig for it. I guess it is down a bit. They sit way up on top of a hill and you can see the power plant across the road.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Zimmer or Beckjord?

Zimmer's not too far from us in Moscow. :-) See, you could make it a two trip visit, first one Rock farm, then the other.
There are SEVERAL out in the pasture around the barn where the cows are. I guess they've kicked them up over time.

They're probably on a ridge like we are. We're way up on one of those hills too. :-)

People actually SELL rocks?? woah

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Big money in selling rocks. LOL You should look at an Evan's ad sometime. OUCH!

They live across from the second power plant, going away from my house, the one further out. And yes, they are up on a BIG hill!

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

That is Zimmer, the one that caused all the ruckus when it was built because it was supposed to be Nuclear, someone got an injunction and they converted it to coal. (Moscow) Beckjord is in New Richmond.

Big money in rocks... who would have thunk?
Obviously not me! LOL

Mellisa,
A friend of ours has made a nice living selling rock.
He used to be a Respiratory Therapist but gave it up for hardscaping.

He hand picks, hand loads (no Bobcat real hands) , and delivers in the Cincy/NKy area.
He also builds walls, patios, etc...

He sells plants in the Spring from a stand on his driveway too.
Honor system for payment.
There's a box you drop your money or check in.
In 6 years he's never been ripped off.

He won't ever get rich but he's REAL happy doing his thing!

BS, you shouldn't have told her that her rocks are worth money. Now she might charge you big bucks for them. Get there fast before she changes her mind. lol

Melissa, I wish I had a few rocks to deal with here but I only have sandy loam. I need rocks for my pond too and they run $350 a pickup load if you buy them out here in the Rocky Mountains. Really am going to look for rocks for free this summer but then I have to watch for rattlesnakes. Can't win. :(

Heber Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG!!!!!! Michelle it is beautiful---- you will have some "sweat" equity in that!!!! LOL! I just love the work you have done... are you for rent? You need to come to Arkansas where it "rains" rocks. You get a whole new crop every time it rains. I hate all the rocks. We have to haul soil in here because we live on a ridge and it is all rock. We almost have to rent a jack hammer to dig a whole. Melissa I can sympathize with you hon.... I absolutely hate to have to dig a whole hear---- I would rather go to the dentist! hahaha. Michelle I just love that lotus. It really stands out in your new pond. How do you keep the girls out of it? Mine are teenagers and I can't keep them out---hahah Marie

Michelle this is what ponds look like on a rocky mountain---Marie

Love that moon face! The fencing looks nice, too.

Heber Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks GW--- I wish I could rent a back hoe and put one in the ground. A in ground pond is on the top of my things to do page.... Marie

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That is neat Marie! One thing I have learned the hard way-sometimes you have to work with what you have. Or you can kill yourself and still work with what you have! LOL I love the face!

Heber Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Michele--you would not believe the size of some of the boulders we pull out of the ground every time we get a rain. Which means the soil here is horrible--- all of your good topsoil washes away. The houses in the valley below us have awesome yards because they have all of our topsoil. Sometimes I feel like taking my trailor and going down to the valley and loading my topsoil back up and bringing it back up here!!!! hahah but I am going to have to rest up for awhile because as tired as I am now I couldn't run very fast to get away for the guard dogs and the bullets. hahah Marie
