I have a ~6' tall white that just started to Y. After listing to some folks that have good information, (all of you) , but this time especially Root and Kaufman, I have stirpped off Most of the leaves below the Y. I just couldn't take them all off below the Y, just too chicken. I'm hoping to force more bugs. This plant was a 2 yr old cutting that was cut back to the base when I got it last fall. It has 2 stems. The other didn't Y yet so I haven't trimmed the leaves. Here is a photo of one trimmed, and not the other. There is a sport at the bottom of the one I trimmed.

#1. Have I trimmed enough off of the stem that has Y'd, and should I cut off and root the sport?

Must be too late for me on a work night, all these posts where edited for spelling. oh well...

Questions #2

This is a seedling of Rosamond X (ursuline x australie 00) that has grown great. It's about 3' tall, and I'm wondering if this a Y, and if yes, how come there's no buds? Or is it 2 trunks?

MG99. The first pic. Wow nice and straight!! I have never forced bugs or buds this way so I can't advise! But your Y is looking good!

Last pic, if that is a seedling and not a cutting, it is not a Y. Just a freaky growth habit.

You will get blooms soon!

Thanks Kell, the last pic is a seedling, not a cutting.

This is a little bit from a letter from Monika about removing leaves from brug seedlings:

The plant splits in the leaves with the help of sunrays the fertilizer into proteins and other ineeded ngredients. The foliage is needed for growing and flowering.

I believe Monika to be saying that the sunrays and the fertilizer get together in the leaves and change to proteins and so on. Therefore, the leaves are needed so that these changes can take place. Because of this note....I'm no longer stripping leaves. When they have Y'd and set buds, I will think about removing leaves. LOL! Thanks Monika, for all of your help.

Shirley, I'll take that advice. Monika knows best.

I do not believe I have ever said to take leaves off a seedling.
I have said I remove the lowest couple leaves, when I plant in the soil,so they will not be getting covered with dirt.
I treat seedlings different then cuttings.

Thanks Monika via Brugie and thanks to you as well. Root, The top plant that I stripped the leaves, is not a seedling, but probably on it's 3rd year. And no one will get any blame for anything. I choose to do this, so don't anyone worry.

I lead a simple life. The other day when the wind came up and blew many of my brugs over, and a couple off of a table that was about 4' high, my partner was very anxious about the damage because the brugs are such a passion for me, but in the whole scheme of things, they are just plants. Lovely plants, but just plants. I have a loving partner, a job, a roof over my head, loving family and friends. Life is good! Really, as I said, they are only plants.

Yup,they are just plants......
that drive us all nuts...LOL

I do take some of the leaves off the seedlings...well the bigger seedlings..
If I don't the water never hits their roots......

and I don't have time to lift them all to water....
