Updated brug garden pix

Auburn, WA(Zone 8b)

Gretchen your yard is beautiful. Makes me tired just looking at it. You've done a spectacular job. I can't wait to see pictures of all those brugs blooming along your driveway. Linda

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Linda! Barring disaster, We should have a full flush of blooms about this time next month. All the 'allee' trees/bushes/plants whatever you want to call them are absolutely loaded with little buds, so I'm guessing they're all going to bloom at once.... If that happens, its going to be an interesting (to say the least) sight to see! Gretchen

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, I have a camera and took pictures in my yard today, but not of my puny brugs, but I will. I just bought some of the Bayer treatment for my roses and put that on today. Guess I'll dose the brugs too. Thanks so much. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. It is pouring now ( someone in the family is not happy since we have hay cut and thought it would bale Monday) HA!. Got to finish supper. Jenny

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Jenny: You'll probably want to wait for it to dry out a little before you dose them, unless of course they're in pots and not getting hit with the deluge! And, I know all about hay... I grew up on a farm, and we have horses now. Well, I hope y'all can get it in before it goes to seed! Gretchen :)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Looks nice now..but can't wait to see how nice the row of brugs in front of the house will look when in bloom!! Good job!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

.....and who mows the lawn while you are planting, weeding, watering, bloom heading, blowing the leaves off the drive....

Gotta go rest...that was exhausting....!!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gretchen, it should win awards in another month then. I can't wait!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

It's going to be beautiful when they bloom.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Absolutely beautiful. I cannot wait to see the photos once they start blooming. WTG.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you all! In about a month I'd say.

Aloha: I do it all... My husband is a bone marrow transplant recipient 17 months post-transplant. He's doing great, but not yet allowed to mow, or so he tells me... So, inside and outside I take care of it all, while he rides his horse, takes his boat to the lake fishing, or rides his Harley. Keeps me honest, I guess LOL!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Gretchen was it you who posted the pic last year of you with the dogs in the blooming fields?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

liz, yes, I believe that was Gretchen...tried to locate the post, but was unable to...

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Was it this pictue? It was from my "I must be crazy" thread.

That's it. I'm losing it. It was only a couple of months ago? LOL, the memory isn't what it used to be.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Believe me, do I know the feeling :) Glad the mystery is solved...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oh. My. doG., Gretchen, you are WAY too cute!!!! Of course, I'm a Golden person, but your horse (I'm also a horse person) is very nice and has a wonderful eye, sweet horse, sweet Golden, he is SO cute, I love your old guy...

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh Gretchen....what a magnificent horse! And your brug pics are looking soooo good. I just can't wait to see them in full bloom!

Geez....I've been away for a whole week and I have 3 or 4 hours of reading to do!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks you two! The horse is an AQHA gelding out of the Doc Bar line that DH bred and trained as a working cow horse. He's 5 now and quite a bit larger than in that picture. His nick name is Pistol, and he definitely lives up to the name LOL!

Hve fun catching up, Brinda :)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Brinda, like you, I'm behind and need to catch up after being sick last week and two days at the hospital and I won't even mention the work that needs to be caught up. LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh, Ada! I hope it isn't serious and that you are okay!!! God bless you, Sweetie!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gretchen, when you say 'cow horse', do you mean a horse that 'works' cows, like for herding, vaccinations, worming, etc???? I do, or did that and loved it, I own gaited horses, but I love quarter horses too. Might you know Jimmy Orrell??? Most likely he's too much older for you or your hubby to know, his son is Jimmy Darrell Orrell...they are Arky QH folks, and pretty well known...

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Hi Sherry! Well yes, a working cow horse does all that on a ranch, but this is an AQHA competition show class. A working cow horse has to run a reining pattern and work a cow in a pattern, and are judged by their form, abilities, etc. My DH has trained cutting, reining and working cow horses and has competed in team penning as well. I don't know him, but I'll ask DH when he returns from his fishing trip... Gaited, as in Saddle Horses or Walkers? They are both beautiful breeds!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Gretchen, I'll be fine, Just a bit weak yet but I'll be back to old self soon. LOL I don't know if that's good or bad.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

I went to a Saddlebred and Morgan show a few weeks ago, wow. I don't think I could handle a saddlebred right now. My goal is to own a horse in about 1- 2 years, so I am preparing. Couldn't help but say Pistol is a beauty (you and the dog are too;) ! I'd love to see some updated pictures of him! Do you have a site for the horses?

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Ada: So glad that you are on the mend!

Jenks: My discs with him on it are stored off-site at the moment. This is the only one I have on my computer and its from last Fall. The guy in the background is a friend of ours. Good luck with your goal! They are a ton of responsibility as I'm sure you've learned. What breed are you planning to buy?

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

GOSH! He is so pretty! So far a quarter horse sounds good to me! Of course I plan on going as much on individual personality and instinct as I can force myself-and I think a mature one would be a good idea-10 or over. Any recommedations? I would want my kids to be able to take lessons on it so maybe 13 or older. I also don't need a show horse so I am thinking it could be one from the impound. Still checking them all out! When I took lessons as a kid, I never paid a whole lot of attention to care of, and breed, etc. Just loved them. Now I just want to get as prepared as possible.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

There are lots of wonderful breeds, and wonderful "mongrels". No need to have a registered breed if its just going to be a pleasure horse. I would make sure it had been a family horse though and observe it quite a bit before you agree to buy it. Make sure it isn't a cribber, and that its not easily frightened. Make sure you're around when its caught from a pasture, having its hooves picked, saddled, bridled, etc. Be careful getting a horse from the "pound" as its difficult to know the horse's history... Hope this helps! Gretchen

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Well I am aquainted with a couple of volunteers and met a lady from the Department of Agriculture who recruited me, and am waiting for a call back. I figured I can help, get my horse fix, and get to know the horses as well. Maybe I'll click with one while I am mucking it's stall or giving them their grain! LOL Thank you for the advice! What's a cribber?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Yes, your horse is a hunk, really handsome, Gretchen!! I had TN walkers and quarter horses, our whole family rides. My sons grew up on horses and they competed in TN walker yearling classes and the pleasure class, we never put the stacked shoes on them. I love to watch that but would never do it to a horse I owned. I ride cutting horses too, but of course anyone in the world can ride a trained cutting horse, the most difficult thing is getting on and off, ha!!! Jenks, we raised our own colt for the kids - his name was Bumper Sticker, because he stuck so close to his momma - his birth was the most exciting animal event here. As he grew up, we intended to put him with a trainer, but we just couldn't stand the thought of him being away. One day, my hubby and I were driving home and I said, who is that way off up there, ya know, it looks like Bumper with someone riding. Well, the 'someone' was both our boys, riding him bareback, they were 6 and 11 and Bumper was just a year old. Whatever, horses are LOTS of fun, except when they break out, whew!!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Sherry -- that had to be a sight, seeing your two sons on that horse! Thanks! My DH is pretty savvy when it comes to breeding too. I personally don't ride anymore as I honestly don't have time, but when I was a kid I rode and showed hunters. Besides, these horses are not what I would call "pleasure horses". They are always all fired up and rearing to go...I leave all the horse stuff to DH, although before he got sick, I managed the barn (grunt work) LOL! When he got sick I sold the whole lot of them with the exception of this gelding. He's boarded with someone else and all the horses in our barn are owned by others who personally take care of them themselves.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gretchen -- I really didn't start riding until I was an adult, I could ride, just didn't do it frequently. But, when it came time to get the kids on horses, it was up to me, and, wow, did I love it. All the way from the vet stuff to loading hay to the tack shop, I LOVE ALL that stuff. I was nutz for Smarty Jones and saw him win the Arky Derby and what a race that was, I was SICK he didn't win the Belmont. I don't bet, but I know a good horse when I see one, and he is a real champion, that day just wasn't his, kinda like a dog show or, maybe even a flower show - hey, are there brugmansia shows????????

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well, my hat's off to you Sherry! How do you find enough hours in the day to get everything done that you do?!? I agree with you regarding Smarty Jones...I was just sick when he didn't win, as I think the rest of the world was. I think that horse even got people interested that had never before been interested in the sport. Like you said, twas not his day... You have a good evening, my gang just pulled in from fishing and I now get to cook dinner, at almost 9PM...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gretchen, you have a nice evening too!!! My guys just came in from fishing too but their pal cooked them, whew, glad I wasn't on duty...

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Wow Gretchen....he is a beauty! I'm a horse lover from the beginning of my time! LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Brinda!

Wowzers - what a cute girl you are, flip flops and all, LOL!!! Actually, I did notice the seedling and the height is almost impossible to believe - despite all weather conditions, you are doing everything just right!!!
Congrats, Gretchen!!!

PS - I'm a flip flop girl too Gretchen. This is the year of the flip flops, pedicures and flashy nail polish (as if that isn't what I've always used, ha). Last week, my granddaughter, age 9, and I when flip flop shopping and I bought some that are 3 inches high, and I'm tall to begin with, whew!! I felt like I was on a tightrope!!! I gave them to my grand's mom, who is also 5 ' 8" - so she gave them to her pal, who was a few inches shorter than she is - now, they are the same height, LOL!!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Sherry! I'm pretty proud of it, and believe it or not, its grown a foot in the last ten days! I can't tell you how many pairs of flip flops and sandals in general I own. I too am meticulous about the manicure and pedicure, just wish I had the pretty hands and feet to go along... The only bad thing about flip flops and me, is the permanent tan line on my feet, LOL! I'm only 5'1" and I have never owned any platform shoes. Maybe I should try some of those 3" flip flops -- I'd probably fall off them though and do major injury to something LOL!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Brain freeze here.........what is EBC? I know I'll feel stupid after you tell me. LOL!
