Brugmansia sanguinea - "Scarlet"

Northern California, CA

Well "Scarlet" is trying very hard to be a real Brug......just this one bud, but she's hanging on to it tightly and working hard to be beautiful.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Waiting patiently to see it also! I have Vulcanicola, one that can be cross pollinated with it, I believe.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Look at that color!!! I hope it stays dark like that, beautiful!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Cant wait to see it fully open! How wonderful!

Northern California, CA

Looks just the same this morning.....I feel like I'm awaiting the birth of a grandchild or something! LOL

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shoot, I just knew there would be a pic of the grand opening, ha! While we are waiting, where should I plant my daturas and how large/tall will they be?? I cannot believe they rooted so quickly, and thanks again, Candy!!!

Northern California, CA

Morning Sherry -

They will be BIG. I kept my one plant pruned hard last year to about 4' x 4'. Full sun and lots of room to grow is about all they ask for.

"Scarlet" update as of this AM.

"Scarlet" came to the garden last fall. This was planted as a 4" seedling. She has had a very hard life.....the wind topped her off 3 times this past winter, so her stem is very misshapen, but she has persisted and is about 5 feet tall now. I'm sure that "Scarlet" is a name someone somewhere made up for her, haven't found anything designating it as an "official" cultivar. :-)

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Great story, Candy, I love it!!! Bless her heart, she must be very tough to have gone through all of that. I cannot wait to see her bloom and to see if she can be identified...this is a fun one!!!

12 Hours later.......

She is starting to do her thing...and is going to be very pretty. Tomorrow morning, I'll be here waiting on the next installment. LOL!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Candy, I can only imagine how much fun you are having, watching Scarlet. The ONLY way it could be more fun for me, would be if I was there watching with you. I cannot wait to see Scarlet bloom, this is so exciting!!!!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Getting close!!

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow! I can't wait!

Northern California, CA

And 12 hours later....

Admitedly "Scarlet" is not the showiest Brug of all, but I give her great credit for being a survivor and I appreciate the effort she's expended to put on this little show. :-)

I really like her!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Looking good. Bet she gets even better in the next twelve. Thanks for the update. Just wish I could grow one here.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Is that an Annie's Annual, Candy? I have 2 of them that have not flowered yet.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

So pretty!! She sure deserves to bloom her heart out, and show all her glory!
I am SO tempted to try a sang here... lol but Im worried that it just wont like it. I may just have to give one a try.
Thank you for showing us this beauty! Very exciting to watch it happening.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Candy, that is soooooooo pretty, I love the color and I bet it gets better and better!! Well worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Northern California, CA

Not much change in 24 hours.....90+F yesterday and hotter predicted today and she seems to be not fully opening and trying to keep out of the heat.

Kell - I got her at Alden Lane I am pretty sure, wasn't tagged as an Annie's grown plant. I went back and checked the date and it was July 17th 2003 that I purchased her....so that's 11 months to get the first (and so far only) bud.

Candy that is incredible. Sure wish we could grow them here.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

That has got to be one of the prettiest I have ever seen!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Candy, it's surely been worth the wait, it is so pretty!!!

Donna, why can't they be grown in 8b???? Too hot/humid??

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I have tried and it is even too hot here .
That's why Candy's bloom is struggling to fully open.( IMHO)
I was told that they need 60 to 70's daytime and even cooler evening temps to thrive.

They are so beautifully wild looking =)
No, this is not mine. One of the growers I used to talk with sent it. Nice !!!

Well, Scoot, that sounds like something we could grow in the winter, then bring it inside in the summer and put it under the aircon...ya think??? It surely is pretty!!

Northern California, CA

Well that makes perfect sense to me......poor little girl decided to appear on a couple of the hottest days so far this year.

She looks a little washed out this morning after 97F yesterday! No sign of other buds, but I'll be watching her for additional attempts at aiding me in my total zone denial way of thinking. :-)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

You go girl, I've seen you grow some beautiful plants.
Zone denial is a good thing =)

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Beautiful!! Good for you!
Bonnie

Independence, MO(Zone 5a)

I love this one :) the color is way cool

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL zone denial! Do they have a support group for that? I think I may be in it myself. Mine are only little sprouts though.
