jt you might want to rethink that idea of having a pot right at the surface. I have had koi and goldfish both kill themselves from climbing into pots at the surface and not being able to get back out. You can make a cage out of plastic mesh and a frame of pvc that will be a box for the lilies and save most of them from the koi. They won't be able to uproot them if the tuber is in a cage. They will still damage the leaves though. A friend took care of all those problems with her koi by giving them a playground of terra cotta stove pipe sections stacked and she changes the configuration of the pipes on a regular basis. Her plants sit on top and the fish swim back and forth underneath. He plants looked great yesterday and she has 40 fish in there with most about 15 inches and up.

I need some hyacinth for postage. Do you all have any left?

Ponditis....
Thanks for the ideas...
I did make a plastic mesh that extended from the bottom to the top of the water, and yes, the Koi got in, and couldn't get out one day, luckily I was there when it happened, so I got rid of that.
I think I will try the box you spoke of. Also, maybe if I give them something to play in, like your friend did, that could help..... any pictures?
Thanks again.....

The cylinders wouldn't show up in pictures but they are the terra cotta ones that should be available from businesses that sell bricks for fireplaces because they are the chimney flues. She told me she likes to change their orientation about every two weeks to keep the koi working on going to a new place more than seeking and destroying her plants. Plus she feeds a lot of watermelon to the koi leaving the rind on in a circle which she retrieves later with a stick of bamboo into the circle of rind and lifting it out. They also like oranges and many other things from your own table. Sometimes it takes them a while to get used to eating such things but I haven't had a koi yet that didn't learn to love that stuff.
does anyone have any water plants for postage? Could sure use a couple. thanks.

Great! Glad you got a bloom Ted! Mine have been blooming for the last month. I love looking at the pond and seeing a sea of purple and green ;)
