Moles

I have found a product called mole
GET AWAY --WWW.HAVAHART.COM
this product is unrefined castor oil. It comes in a handy hose end sprayer. It is heavy oil and smelly when applied to the ground and then watered in. The more water the better.
I found this at a local farm store about $16.
When I got home from shopping there was a mole in my trap
and now i feel guilty.
The mole getaway dosen't kill, just repels.

Well, you live and you learn. Next time you can use the oil. :)

Moles have eaten several of my hosta and I'm ready to try anything that will work!

This is what I'm trying now and I know this method has been somewhat successful. They've brought a few of them to the door!

Doris: What beautiful mole repellants you have. They are adorable.
We had moles in the yard last summer. What a mess they make. My DH kept bothering them by stomping down their tunnels and taking a pitch fork to the tunnels when he saw them working. Finally he hooked one with the fork and left dead it in the tunnel. The others left and we haven't been bothered since.
I do believe that growing castor beans work. The side of the yard where I had them growing, the moles didn't even go there.

I've heard that the castor bean plants work as a repellant
but I have no sunny areas to get them growing. I tried some in the shade but that didn't work for me. Maybe I'll hunt me a pitch fork ;)

Isn't the castor oil poisonous? I would never use it around children or pets. If your plants are being munched, it is likely gophers or something else; moles eat insects and grubs. Mice and other vermin do enter mole tunnels and eat the roots of plants, I've read.

Sounds reasonable. This looks like it could have been a gopher's work!

Sure does! Could be chipmunks, too.

We had a major mole problem one year - there were so many it looked like the garden was actually 'breathing'. Desperate I asked the old farmer next door who suggested I put in a few of the pinwheel type decorations that are around. The moles do not like the vibrations these things give off when the wind hits them. Within 2 days all the moles were gone- I've used the pinwheels every year since and haven't even seen a mole. D

I know I sound heartless but I'm glad the cats are thinning the chipmunks. It is very disheartening when you go out and find damage like I did several times last year!
