Sorry to hear about all the rain. This is strange weather we're having.
jagonjune
jagonjune have you had a good rain yet? It may be one giant pond here but we need sun and heat to get them going.
Thunder Creek, Moose Jaw River, etc. could make the Saskatchewan Rivers blush this year.
echoes I hope this does bypass you...do farmers in your area have their crops in yet?
The area where my Dad's farm is the grain has yet to be planted by any farmers in the district and in other areas, where they have, I'm sure the grain is rotting and/or floating in the fields.
It is Liz...what's it like at the coast?

My neighbor's crop across from us is up and was up before the all heavy rain. He was out there making ruts to help drain the water off. It may recover. Others may not be so lucky. If the crop wasn't far enough along, there isn't much hope.
I was just watching the weather station echoes...saw they have let a lot of water out onto the fields around Winnipeg. How far away are you?
about 10 miles. What do you mean 'let'?
It's wet here Pam, and this is our dry season.
I hope everything is OK with you Echoes, it doesn't sound good.
I think they said they had opened some of the flood gates to spare Winnipeg flooding.
Ah, yes. I knew they were debating that. It's to save people from having their basements flood in Wpg. I bet a lot has to do with the cities river walkway too. Downtown and The Forks - tourist attractions etc. When they open the floodway, some down river have to get it worse, so they are not supposed to to do it unless absolutely necessary. A lot of houses in that zone have dikes or are now on hills(after 97), but that doesn't help the farmers drain their fields.
My poor neighbor is out two or three times a day patrolling up and down the road in front of his crops.
No, no, No! You have to hang in there until it's time to vote. Then you can surrender. LOL!
LOL Liz! ;)
Your pond is lovely and not so little echoes......water lilies would look wonderful in it!
Echoes, that's a good sized pond. What have you got growing in there? Do you have fish? Or should I ask if you have any fish left?
No fish. Racoons would eat them in no time. We've had a couple of wood ducks visit, and brought a big turtle back to it. The kids put a couple of fish from the river in it way back. The only thing that stays is frogs. Noise can get REAL loud.
We have had some rain Pam but certainly no where near enough. We had one soaker of an inch and a half about two weeks ago which at least got things a start but as soon as the rain stops the wind starts and everything dries way too fast. We are having light rains this weekend but the accumulations aren't large. And the wind continues to blow..... We too need heat to get the haylands and crops growing. Everyone around here is pretty much 100% seeded (by about the end of May)
Garden is way slow because of cool overnite temps. Peas are only up about an inch. Spinach isn't even edible yet. Beans are just up and the potatoes are just up as well (I did plant them later than usual but weather has more to do with it)
That is definitely not a little pond, echoes! very nice! But Liz is right in saying, our weather has been scary! Yesterday at the Van Dusen garden show in Vancouver, our volunteers(incl. me), manned the BC Council booth (my shift was from 10-2.........the sun came out for ??? but in the am, it was cool! lots of wonderful plants there, Liz! Trops, everywhere..How dare Steve Whysall of the Van Sun paper put the show to shame...it was wonderful! E...........have fun at the Park and Tilford plant sale today...
Van Dusen show. I'll make it some day. Have to organise my kids babysitting needs a bit better.
Lilypons, I was in Moosejaw May 27th or so. Was really shocked when I just saw your picture from the newspaper. Didn't know you lived in Moosejaw.
Sunny here at this precise moemnt. 40% chance of rain later. Friend of mine is an organic farmer. All his planted crops are under water due to flood gates being opened. Compensation willl be paid apparently - who knows if it will cover farmer's losses.
G off to plant impatiens - 10 flats in an inner city association garden.
OK, spill the beans. Why was Pam's picture in the paper? Did she rob a bank?
those pictures up thread of the streets under water?
Yep I did Liz .... gotta pay for those plants somehow!! I do think however she is referring to the pictures I double posted about mid thread. Water is still pouring off the roof but it is nice to read that warm even almost hot temps are forecasted for later this week. If I could share I would Lynn....gladly! :)
It's good to hear that your weather is improving Pam.
Elaine, I stopped going to VanDusen for exactly the reasons that Steve Whysall mentioned, it has become less and less about the plants. I had a long conversation a few years ago with Dave Wooten from Hawaiian Botanicals about it. That's why he stopped doing the show.
inanda I do live in town...sorry we missed each other! Next time you are coming through click on my name, beside any of my postings, and there is a link to send me an email.
A very pretty girl Pam. You must be very proud of her.
She's so lovely!
We are!! :) She has worked hard to graduate with good marks!
I had no idea tho' how much Graduation Day has changed from years ago....it makes having an exotic garden cheap!! And we have been very reasonable in our choices I think!
Thank you echoes....I do think she is my prettiest flower but I am somewhat biased! ;) The tanning tho' came out of her pocketbook, she sure didn't get it naturally here this spring...she'll be wearing a strapless dress and thought a bit of color (other than Canadian white) would look nice with it.

I think you better start stocking that pond with pirhana to take care of the predators!!! That is one lovely girl. And it will get more expensive next year. Is she off to Saskatoon or further afield for school. The U of A is great choice.
She hasn't made up her mind yet...decided to take the year off and do a bit of saving. We did enrol them in a education savings plan the month they were born but I know it will only get worse!! So *how* close are you to the University?!?!? ;)

about 15 minutes and I have a spare bedroom that isn't doing anything
Plus you would definitely visit which puts you within a days drive of LOTUS LAND
:D .... :D ...... :D ...... :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We shall be looking at U. of A's calender!!
UBC would be even closer. You can't get much closer to the UBC Botanical garden than the residences.
That is true Liz! Tho' I must admit plants fascinate me a *bit* more than DD. The mountains and the ocean would fascinate her but I'm not sure how she would feel being that far away from home (her brother is more of the adventurous type). We will be looking at a number of options this following year.
Who edits ??? No rude words here??? Rats. Have to say I've seen Echoes pond. Absolutely beautiful. Has some huge clumpsof sibe iris that were in bloom when we were there. Have to find some pseudacorus for that pond.
Ginny
It's me editing my own posts inanda...I usually think of something I meant to add later or see a spelling mistake, etc.
