Gosh Monika, I feel so bad that you had to go to all the work of planting and then have the cold weather come in. Maybe warm temps will come after Wednesday and they will finally have a chance to grow and bloom soon. I'm anxious to see pictures from your trees this year. They are always so beautiful.
The Brugs need a warm coat
I hope it warms up real soon for you Monika, Im sure the brugs are just as anxious as you. Its been a long winter. :o)
And then the plants have to remember it is time to grow after being so cold. People must come from all over to see your paradise. I am sure they never have seen such things growing like that before.
lol, Ada "Let's make a deal"
You send me 10 Degrees and I'll send you 5 inches of rain...
Do we have a deal?? lol
Praying for warmth and sun for you, Monika :)
Thank you all for your good wishes! One more night and I can remove the newspaper.
I hope, that all of you, which live in the storm regions, are safe.
SD, you have a deal. Let's do it now. LOL

Hi Monika!!! I know you are in zone 5a and I'm in zone 8a; however, in my area, when there is a late frost (I live in tomato country), water is sprayed over the plants to prevent damage. Is that something only done in my area and, or is it impossible to do in zone 5a, re brugs, which I'm told are very similar to tomatoes. Thanks!! SLike
Sherry,
Monika said this in her post above....
"We know about from own experiences, sprinkling fruit trees to save them from frost but the brugs would freeze with the water, because being a tropical to subtropical plant, their cell structure is different. It will burst. You can almost compare it to a potato. When it gets frost, it is over. "
I dont know, why it doesnt work here but the sprinkling system is used only on hardy fruit bearing plants.
Edited to say why the sprinkler system is not used here - tomatos are raised under glass lol!
