How is your plumerias doing?

I am hoping for blooms this year. How is everyone elses?

So far mine are doing well. I will try to take photographs and post them later today.

Are these hard to grow?

Yes and no. But the blooms are so pretty and the scent is so heavenly. It is like bringing Hawaii to you garden.

Hi Rylaff! I have six inflo's on six different plumies. I'll be sure to post pictures when they bloom. I am in the process of moving them to a new location, which is why they are in the middle of a half dead lawn!

I live in SE Texas, zone 8b....my question is this....can I grow my container grown plumeria in the ground?? I've had them container grown for 3 years, but they've yet to bloom~ I'd love to give them some leg room to do their thing, but have been leary of setting them into the ground. Any suggestions would be appreciated~ thanks! Debra~

Debra ... do u feed ur plumerias? my plumerias are in 5 gal. containers and one is budding now. similar to brugs, u need to feed them with fertilizers with these numbers 10/52/10 or anything close to these number. check the other threads on plumerias and read the recommended url's... to learn more.

yes, u can plant them on the ground if u wish. i keep mine in the pots so i can bring them in, in the fall cuz our temperature here does not permit me to keep them on the ground. hth.

Wow, Clare. Would love to see them all in bloom. RedSunDance, I am also in 8b (barely). I keep mine in a pot also so I can bring it in come winter.

You could experiment with one and see how it does. You could also plant it in the ground, and when winter comes, build a tent/coldframe structure around it to protect it, or you could throw a sheet over it on the coldest nights. But, generally, people grow them in containers in your zone and let them go dormant in the wintertime.

Here is a photo of one of my 6 plumies that is blooming. I have three planted in the ground and three in pots. This one is potted. The smell is just awesome!

Thanks to everyone for their advice! I feed my plants in general, but never paid that much attention to the particular needs of my plumeria(shame on me!) I feed all my plants( yes wayyyyyy too many babies!) with a foliar feeding, and use osmocote in containers~ I think perhaps I will try planting one in the soil to see how it does...it rarely gets below 30 degrees here, and if we have a freeze it's not longer than 24 hours~ So if I makeshift a protection area or tent, maybe it will be fine....I do know I've seen plumeria growing in landscapes in Houston, which is considered the same zone....I do agree that maybe the maturity of the plant will make a difference in adapting to the colder climate...thanks again! you guys are great!! i have been growing mine in the ground for yrs. then before any freeze i dig them up clean off the roots and store in a bucket in an area that doesn;t freeze then in spring i plant them again.

The yellow I had had for a long time..this is the one that has the seed pod on it. The pink was giving to me last year in a trade. The ones you gave me have not bloomed yet. I'm hoping that they will soon...they are full of buds....I'll send pix as soon as they bloom. I hope they are different from the pink I already have.

Comming soon,I hope the wind doesn't rip them a part first,gust over 50 mph today.

First yrs seedling about a foot tall.

Have a couple about 6 ft tall now,looking good so far.
