I have a number of very mature 'Flore Pleno' paeony plants and one P. officionalis about 8-years-old grown from seed. The latter has only been flowering for the last two seasons.
My question is ... none of them sets seed. The seed pods fail to mature. Is there any technique for encouraging them to set seed?
Paeony seeds...
I have just come across this thread.
Having had pods with immature seeds on a Paeonia suffruticosa, the next year I managed to get a good set of seeds, when I rubbed their own pollen, and pollen from the other flowers on the same shrub into their centers.
Seeing this thread has reminded me to check the back of the cupboard to see how they are germinating.
