I came across a photo of one on the web and thought it was interesting. I imagine its on the same line as 'Shredded White', you either like them or you don't. Just curious to hear if its worth aquiring, etc. Thanks,

Does any one grow Brugmansia 'culebra'??
tiG has it. They are not the easiest to grow though and do not get as big as the more popular varieties. (That's why they are more popular) .......... LOL
it's one of my favorites. many don't like it, but I love it. I have seeds from Culebra x Mountain Magic sprouting.
Culebra has a pretty cool history. The leaves are long and slender. When first discovered it was classified as Methysticodendron... not even a brug.
I thought mine was doing pretty good but the last time I checked it looked like it has succumbed to root rot. :( ... JT posted some pretty nice pictures not too long ago.
Nice pic, tiG. Did you set a pod to it? I'd love to see a picture of the pod. Is it aurea shaped?

While we were still in TN, I kept it in the cool greenhouse, it lost a lot of leaves, then it got frozen on the way down and lost more leaves. Now that it's been in the 80's for over a month, it's looking good. I thought it was the arborea that liked cool weather(though they are doing fine here too)

I like mine. Growing wise it's not fussy, rooting is fussy.

That pod looks awful small compared to most brugs. I thought they'd be more round shaped. How long did it take to ripen?
5 months in winter. it was a very small pod.
It will be ineat to see how the seedlings turn out. Anything interesting happening with the foliage on the babies yet?

Tig, that is gorgeous! It truly is like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've never seen one in person but just from looking at a picture of it makes me like it as well as 'Shredded White'.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I'm new to brugs and actually only have only one that I rooted from a cutting (Frosty Pink). The others I recently aquired are my moms. I'm babying them till Mother's Day when I plan to give them to her. I actually bought her 'Shredded White' last Oct. but lost it around the holidays during the weeks the kids were sick. I'm guessing I let it dry out too much. Thank you all also for sharing all your beautiful pictures. My personal wish list keeps getting bigger but first I think I may need to hypnotize hubby into buying a bigger place, ha, ha.LOL!

I like Culebra but find it is a slow grower for me. I hope this summer it has a growth spurt. Kell, when mine gets bigger, I will try and root you a cutting.

I need Calebra advice. JT sent me a Calebra (as a surprise) and it arrived yesterday and I potted it without soaking it in SuperThrive (didn't know to, but I should have used common sense, darn it!) and all the young plants went into shock, the sun had not been out since Wed, but I think there was a sliver on them and that hurt them too. Okay, day 2, the plants looked good and they enjoyed the cool. However, the Calebra looks like it was damaged more by the shock than the others. I have it in the shade, and I've done nothing to any of them today. Didn't I hear, maybe from one of you, that the Calebra doesn't need as much water/food as the other plants??? It rained on all the plants and I'm wondering if the Calebra got too much water? I have the plant in a place where the soil is getting some sun and I'm turning it all the time, to try to dry the plant out some. Should I be doing that and, if not, is there anything in the world I can do?????? Should i remove more of the limp leaves??? I'm very attached to this plant and I would hate to loose it, of all the brugs I have, it's my fav...SLike
Sherry....bump....sorry I can't help you, but let me just say on my EP...even the one leaf it had on it fell off...I think as long as they have good root systems, the leaves will grow back again. I don't think we need to worry SO MUCH about them! Not just you...me too!! I really like that one too & would have liked to have gotten it!
I believe Culebra to be one of the more difficult to grow,I have not tried one yet,I hope yours comes back for you.

Sherry give it some time. I bet it will snap out of it soon enough. It sounds like you're doing everything right.
Culebra is easy to grow once it gets started.It takes much less water than the others and it does grow very slowly.
The one Sherry has is about 8-10 inches tall.It was started last summer as a 6 inch cutting.Arlene sent me my first one and it took about two years to bloom.The blooms are worth the wait.

I killed more than my share of Culebra plants. I did get one to bloom and the blooms are different, but this plant would never be on my "have to get" list. JT is right...much less water and I found it needed lots of sunshine. I no longer have mine because it became too hard to fight the mites on it.
