Nishiki Willow, Dappled Willow 'Hakuro Nishiki' (Salix integra)

Do you have information about these bushes, when they are grafted into trees? I'm interested in the tree type.

Cool. This picture came up as one of the Fun Random Photos. Love the variegation. Hope it is doing well for you.

gardeniaviv I missed your question. Sorry I don't have any info on the grafting. Shirley , thanks yes it's done to well. I did some major trimming on it this fall. I tried to root the pieces but didn't have any luck I will try again the in spring.

I left 2 branch tips in water for several weeks (end May/early June). The water was changed daily and both branches rooted, one after 2 weeks and the other the 3rd week.

I have two of these "trees" in my yard. There is not a separate tree form versus the bush form. You simply train your bush into a tree form. Very easy. Pick out a central leader and cut, cut, cut. Below is a pic of one of my "trees." It's hit or miss on the rooting. I have found it works just as well to put the new growth in potting soil and keep VERY WET. The cutting will lose the old leaves and put out new ones shortly after. I cut both my trees hard, at any time of the season, about every two weeks as the plant is a very fast grower.

irmaly, you have a good eye for what's beautiful. Great idea, terrific yard!

irmaly thanks for the picture that's really more what I have in mind for mine. Guess I need to cut on it more than I have.

Thanks, Pat. It's not really an eye for the beautiful. It's more planting everything in the wrong place, then spending the summer moving things around!

Mystic, yes, just keep cutting. Pick out your main trunk (or two) and then just start cutting away every single piece that is not what you want. You can't hurt this plant. It comes right back at ya!

Irmaly,
I am so inspired by your garden! I can hardly believe you planted everything in the wrong place and just moved it around. If you did, you are a magician!

I am always looking for new plant material to incorporate into my designs. People love varigated leaf texture. Fast growing is a bonus and can satisfy that need immediate gratification in all of us. I'm going to spec out this plant and try training it as a tree, to look just like yours!
Thanks for posting this photo
