I need some instruction of germinating primrose; I did fine with polyanthus, but my denticulata and candelabra seeds did not germinate at all.
germinating primrose seeds
I find that light and moderate temperatures are the keys to germinating those types of primulas (assuming candelabras are bulleyana/beesiana).
Try the following... use small/medium pot; cover compost with ½" of vermiculite. Spray lightly with water to moisten. Sprinkle seeds on top of compost; spray lightly again. Put pot inside transparent plastic bag. Place on windowsill in a room where temperature rarely goes outside the 55-65F range, but is NOT south-facing (otherwise they will bake).
Good luck... :o)
Here are germination instructions from the Tom Clothier site:
Candelabra hybrids: Sow at 20ºC (68ºF), if no germination in 3-4 wks, move to -4 to +4ºC (24-39ºF) for 2-4 wks
Primula denticulata: Surface sow at 20ºC (68ºF), germinates in less than two wks
