The move from the winterquarters into the Summer greenhouse is almost completed. All Brugmansia Trees are now in the Greenhouse, so are most of the shrubs. Tomorrow, I will place the appr. 90 large seedling plants in space left.
The house is full!
My, my, you do like your brugs, don't you? LOL!! What a lot of work. I'm not sure I could do it if they were all in big pots like yours. This summer I'll be wishing I could do it when I get to see your gorgeous pictures. I sure hope you don't have another hot summer like last year.
If I may ask, how do you move them? They must be very heavy and then you have the plant iteself (height, girth) to deal with. I love looking at all your pictures of the flowers, but now I'm also impressed with the sheer size of the trees.

Have you got enough watering cans Monika? These are the ones you fill and leave outside in the sun to warm up?
I am too lazy for watering cans. I use a hose. When I fertilize I use watering cans and I hate it. Takes me too long. I have watered my pot some then sprinkle fertilzer around top and water it in. That goes faster but I always am afraid of buring my brug.
I have appr. 20 water cans. In the Greenhouse are three 240l water containers. The sun warms this water up. If it is not needed, it warms up the Greenhouse during the night.
I love my brugs Shirley LOL!
Oh dear - I have a long way to go! Monika, how long have you been growing those brugs?
Sue
I transplanted my first two babies into bigger pots (not big, just bigger than the cells they were in) today. It was fun - they are my little "project". I'm not going to fertilize them just yet, as I think they've gone through enough today. How long do you think I should wait? A few days? And can I just use Miracle Grow at first? I also have some eggshells soaking in water, and wondered if perhaps they might like that. I know this sounds ridiculous, as I am a newbie. I also don't have alot of money to spend at this time, to go get all the "good stuff". Any little cheap pointers would be helpful.
Monika, you can walk in there so you have room for more LOL!!!!
All I can say is WOW! You go girl!
My goodness! Where do you find the energy to do all this? It must be a true labor of love...
Karrie, Miracle Grow will work just fine. I also use egg shells, but I mash them up finely and plant them in the hole with the brug when I transplant them to the garden. Don't worry about spending lots of money on fertilizers. As long as you feed them they will appreciate it and reward you with blooms later on. I can also tell you that if you put them right in the ground, no pot, they will eat the nutrients the ground provides and can get along easier without as much fertilizer.
Monika: I'm so impressed! I too wonder how you have the energy to move those around twice each year!
Karrie: I gave mine a shot of my molasses concoction before planting them in the ground last week. I purchased wonderful amended flower soil that I put in raised beds for all the brugs, and then mulched them with about 4-6 inches of native shredded juniper. They have grown markedly since then! Unfortunately, the wind is beating them to death, and I'm going to have to stake several of them tomorrow so they will cointinue to grow straight and tall...
This wind must be working it's way all across the country. It has been horrible here. Just got the yard cleaned up and mowed and now it is full of sticks and limbs again. I know how you are feeling Gretchen. I'm just lucky that only my big trees are outside right now. The little ones are still tucked in the greenhouse.
Shirley, honestly if I'd had a bigger GH, mine would still be in there. They were so crowded though, and I was really having a time with mites, I just couldn't wait to get them in the ground! Now I'm just hoping the wind doesn't destroy them. Luckily they were all pretty good sized, and all had started to develop "bark" on the stems. The only ones I'm really concerned about are the PB X EP. They have gotten very tall (about 30") and gangly looking. Hopefully they'll grow into themselves. Its been very interesting to see the different characteristics of the various seeds. I would've never guessed...DH informs me that the wind is forecasted to move out tomorrow. Yeah!!!
I heard that our winds are to die down some tonight, but will switch directions and bring in cooler temps. Only going to have highs in the sixties all week now. We are used to 85.
I don't know how you keep up with them all and work to. I know I couldn't.
I would say, this is the upper level of this addiction!!!
Monika, what a lot of great looking brug trees. How high is the ceiling of your summer greenh. looks like it must be 10 or 12 feet high. You said you have to keep them in there for another couple of months, is that correct. You deserve every bloom you get. Donna
Molassas concoction? what is it? do tell!
I can't plant mine in the ground, as my zone is 5b. I have some 5 gallon pots ready for them when they are ready. This is what they look like right now (a pic of one of them). I am keeping two of them that grew together, separated from the others (they are like identical twins), as I want one on both sides of the porch, at the bottom of the steps, when they are grown ups. Yup - just babies right now, but they did need bigger pots - they were in tiny cells before. They just graduated to "kindergarten", lol!

Kell why don't you invest in a hose on attachment? They are so easy, premix fertilizer in a 5 gallon bucket and the hose on delivers a 1:16 ratio, much better than watering cans. I think you can find them for $15 or less.
Where can I find one of these hose 'thingies' ?
I have one, but the one I got says that it only works with 50 ft. of hose because with longer hose the pressure isn't the same and it won't siphon the fertilizer out of the bucket. I tried it and they were right. Fifty foot is all it will work with. What can I do now? I think I got mine from Charley's Greenhouse Supply. Very few of my flowers are within 50 ft. of the water supply. Dang.
What are they called ,so I can look around for one ?
Syphonject™ Siphon Mixer is what it is called at Charley's. There is a picture of it on this page... http://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/catalog/index.cfm?page=_ProductDetails&ProductId=6439
This would maybe reach my plants on the front porch but nothig else =(
Somewhere RootDoc was talking about a pump of some kind he uses to fert his plants ????
Oh Rooootyyy ....Where arrrre you ????
I was disappointed when I bought it. Sure thought I had solved my problems. Now I use one of those Ortho hose end sprayers that holds a couple of cups of fertilizer. Mine is the kind with the dial so I can pre-determine what amount I want per gallon of water. It works just great.
Prudence, I think, it is appr. 25 years or longer. I started with Brugs in the seventies.
CC, today, I moved the large seedlings into it and I still can walk but the path has become narrow LOL
I hope to stay healthy to enjoy my Angels Trumpets as long as possible.
Karrie: Its on this thread:
http://davesgarden.com/t/423312/
Shirley: I use a hose end sprayer with my 200 ft of hose. Its the dial type, made by Gilmour and I really like it.
well, I have the H20, mollasses and Liquid Seaweed already!
Then get yourself some H202 and Super Thrive and you'll be all set! I only add the Tea Tree Oil as an anti-fungal...
Whew. Do you realize how much ahead of me you are? Mercy me. However, I'll stay with ya, and hope I'll catch up. Whatever, it's fun, thanks for indulging me!!!!!! SLike
If you use the hose end sprayer don't you waste lots of fertilizer between pots?
I was going to buy one before Tracey when you told me about them, but you know me, I put it off! LOL
I have the Miricle grow hose-end sprayer. It has a shut off valve so you can turn it off between pots. It works good for foliar feeding too. I also have an Ortho hose end sprayer. That one has a dial so you can adjust the mix ratio. It has a shut off valve too. Both work pretty good.
Scoot ,I can never say I have used a pump for fert,I do have a hose siphon now for my first year,I guess I will use a 50 ft hose, and feel lucky I have a small yard as I bucket brigade the rest.
Thanks T,for the siphon connector!
Now to figure out the drypowder weight and mix for a 5 gal bucket at 15 to 1.Duh,need more coffee.
Must have misunderstood a post somewhere, sometime my circuits get overloaded trying to absorb all the info here ;-D
We have paul mitchell tea-tree shampoo! lol! Where would I pick up the tea-tree oil? I imagine it might help against bugs, too, as it SURE IS STINKY!!!!! :) And what is the H202 stand for (not a chemist here) Also, how often should I use this solution on them?

Karrie, Davers say it is at Walmart in the pharmacy section and the other is hydrogen peroxide.
lol - then I only need the tea tree oil. Walmart? I avoid Walmart like the plague! Maybe I can get it at Walgreens or something.
