morning glory seeds

smithton, MO(Zone 5a)

i started a ton of seeds, they have already bloomed..lol..in the greenhouse...now they are going to seed..my question....if there are seeds in the pods does that mean that they were pollinated?..do they need to be pollinated in order for the seeds to be able to be sown?...does this make sense....any-who...if the seeds are good i will be able to have more m/g, if not ill wait till next year and not start them so early...this is my first year with seeds and boy i have learned a lot...lol..thanks in advance for your input

If there are seeds in the pods they are prolly good. If the flowers didn't get pollinated you wouldn't have any seeds. Even if you started them too early they still should have plenty of life left. It won't hurt them to cut them back a little and plant them outside. I bet they'll take right off.

the only way for them to have seeds if they were pollinated.

yes the seeds will be good. i have some growing in the greenhose that have seed pods.

let the seed pods turn brown and crinkly sounding before you harvest them or put a little stocking around them while they dry out.

you will get babies from these seeds next year.

heck as fast as these grew i think if i take some of the seeds and directly sow them outside i will still get blooms this year outside...lol

thanks for the info

Most Ipomoea are self pollinating, so even if you only had 1 plant that never had any insect contact, you would still get viable seeds. (if no pollination occurred, you would not get any seeds).
This site offers alot of helpful info:

There are small green arrows to navigate through pages, and the CONTENTS will take you to the index. A wonderful learning site. This is where I learned about cross-breeding & to tie off my buds to prevent cross-pollination.
Hope that helps.
