I got up this morning and cleaned the house, simultaneously doing three loads of laundry (the last load is still in the dryer), then I planted 52 one gallon brugs and watered and mulched them. After that I moved the last cubic yard of mulch by hand. If y'all don't hear from me for a while, its because I can't get out of bed LOL! I gotta go cook dinner now for DH... Happy evening to everyone!!! Gretchen
I must be crazy...
Good job! Hope you don't need help getting up tomorrow a.m.
Gretchen, that is going to be so pretty when all the brugs are blooming. Hope I get to see it in person. Do you ever rest?
Wow, that will be spectacular when they bloom! I hope you will post pictures of their progress!
Gretchen, that looks wonderful. I can sympathize with you. I'm whooped and have no plans to do anymore work today. My laundry is going to have to wait until morning to be finished. I can't do the steps to the basement. Take it easy and maybe tomorrow you will be ready to go again. You have too much energy......I couldn't keep up with you at all.
It will look beautiful, once the plants are flowering.
As everyone said, it's going to look terrific!
52 brugs?? Wowser!! It'll look fabulous. You'll have to keep us updated on their progress.
Looks terrific Gretchen! How about coming to my house and "be crazy?!" LOL.....I could use the help. :-)
Thank you all! It was not what I had planned, but my DH refused to let me put them in my border along the fence. He's afraid a horse would take a bite or more and croak... So this is where they went instead. If they do okay there (they are also on either side of the walk to the front door), if will be kind of a half alley, I guess. I still have more to plant. Tomorrow is another day!
Sue and Candy: Congrats on becoming "Uber Gardeners". Without folks like you two, this place certainly would not be the great place that it is!
"UBER"... I just noticed that! What will Dave think of next? LOL!
Neat looking house Gretchen. Is it cool in the summer?
It is going to look beautiful Gretchen. Very nicely done!!
Thanks again. Its going to be fun to watch it grow...
Liz: It needs to be painted so desperately, I shouldn't have posted the pic, but its hard to visualize without. This was DH's house before we married. The only time the grass was mowed was when a horse was turned out and ate it! I had a pretty little place that I built in '97, but it did'nt have horse facilities, so you know who won??? Last year I did the foundation plantings, and this year I've expanded a bit. Next month I hope to do much needed porch railings. It just never ends. And, NO. There is no such thing as a cool house in this part of Texas in the Summer. Now that's wishful thinking LOL!
That deep overhang looks like it was meant to shelter from the sun. LOL, on the rainy west coast we try to let in as much sun as we can. I like the house.
Thank you! I guess it probably does help, and the fact that its constructed of solid 6" rock on the main floor probably does too. But seriously, it stays in the 90-100's with 60-80% humidity all summer long. I hope the brugs I selected will survive it.
I do not think you are crazy but you sure must be young! LOL. Great driveway and house. So you planted 52 brugs up the side of it? Which ones? It i sgoing to be so breathtaking. Great Gretchen!
very beautiful place you have gretchen!! it looks so peaceful there just what i want!!
Wow Gretchen, are you for hire? Or could you at least send a little more energy (and younger body) my way?
I can't wait to see it all in bloom. I'm really curious, did you seperate colors or plant in blocks or how?
Great job!
Whatcha gunna do when they get so tall that you can't see the house?
Wow Gretchen what a drive way that's going to be.
Now there is one drive I would like to stroll down this fall!
Gretchen, this is going to be so pretty when they bloom. I love your house.
Thank you all! I also have some planted along the side of the house and around the oak tree where my hamock is located. Then, I have one on the North side of the house and four back by the greenhouse. I still have a few more to plant, and I'm going to wait and see how these do first. Plus, one for my Mother...
I had nightmares last night that I would not be able to go up the front walk -- Yikes! Hopefully they will grow tall quickly!!!
Kell: Yes, around the driveway, up the walk, three on the front, and six on one side, a bunch under my hammock tree... they are:

Vi: Yes, I planted them according to the "breeding". The named pinks are up against the east side of my porch. The versicolors and versi-cross seedlings are under the oak trees. All the ones out along the drive and walkway are the yellow crosses. In front of the porch on either side are the Dr. Seuss, and the Sunray is also up front. The Milk and Honey is out back (its my least favorite from pix I've seen). There is another oak tree to the far right of the second picture
http://davesgarden.com/t/407165/
and there are also pinks planted around the edge of it...
Thank you all for your lovely comments! And, if they over the house so you can't see it, it wouldn't bother me in the least! LOL I'm back at it today. I hope everyone has a great day!!! Gretchen
WOW what a brug house this is going to be. I can't wait. you must give us updates all brug season!!!
I hope humor is okay here - this seems appropriate. I hope it's not a rerun:
My Exercise Class
I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club so I could start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, I twisted, I gyrated, I jumped up, I jumped down, and I perspired for more than an hour. By the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.
LOL!
LOL That was a good one Sherry. I could have sworn that sounded just like me.
Sherry, how cute! lol
That is toooooo funny Sherry. Guess that is one class I might as well NOT sign up for.
Sherry, that's me and pantyhose. LOL
Sherry, that was so cute.
Gretchen, your house looks great and so do your babies.. you have done a fantastic job.. (can you come over to visit?).. and I can hardly wait to see pictures of them blooming.
WOW, what a collection, what a yard. Please keep us updated. Linda
You must post us a picture several months from now. It is going to be gorgeous and all your hard work will have paid off. I can't imagine the fragrance you will have in your yard with all those brugs and that is going to be one beautiful drive.
Evening Gretchen -
You know how we occasionally hear DGers talk about Zone envy? Well I have a major case of house & land envy going here!
Love the house and the land looks wonderful. Do you have other pictures of the property? I've always dreamed of having a real piece of land, but that's not gonna happen in the Bay Area and I'm getting to the point where I hear myself saying, "I'm not leaving my garden!"
Your house is wonderful!
Sherry: Thanks for the chuckle - that was really cute! That's me with my jeans these days. I gained a few lbs over the holidays and still haven't gotten it off. The metabolism is NOT what it used to be LOL!
You are all too kind! Thank you!!!
Candy: You have one of the prettiest gardens I have ever seen pictures of! This is just an old agricultural field with a few oak trees, a house and a barn, LOL! And...52+ brugs. I have a few more pictures under my portable greenhouse link above. Here's one of me in my bluebonnet field taken yesterday... Its about an acre with a 100' round pen for working horses on one end. Its nearly filled to the brim with bluebonnets and verbena right now!
Gretchen, When I saw the name of your thread..."I must be crazy"...I thought..Hmmm, a thread I could feel comfortable in. lol
Crazy in a gorgeous way!!!! What vision, what a layout, what back pain. lol Please keep us up on pictures.
Pleeeeaaaassseee.....
PS: Candy, I understand about not wanting to leave your garden...When we married two years ago, I had to leave my home that I designed, built and landscaped. It was a place I thought I'd live for the rest of my life and I adored it! I have never been that fond of this place (too much wasted space inside, and surburbia encroaching on us outside), and probably within the next couple of years we will sell it and move. DH just wants to be sure he's well before we do (he's 15 months out from a bone marrow transplant for AML). So this one will not be as hard to leave, although many of the brugs will come with us, where ever we end up.
Thanks SD! Will keep them coming.
