Sheets and clothes pins - it was windy when I was covering everything up last night. Then I woke up with the sun shining in my eyes. I jumped out of bed and ran outside in my robe and slippers to pull all the sheets off so the plants wouldn't fry. LOL
Fortunately my neighbors are used to seeing me out in the yard at all hours of the day and night, often dressed rather oddly.
Welcome to DG, Carol. I live on the Far East side of Columbus. I have been at Dave's for just about a year. There are lots of great people here, and many of them are Buckeyes!

Ooops! I forgot to welcome CW! Glad to have you here. My shooting star and trilliums are just starting to bloom. I have a dog tooth violet 'Pagoda' that is just finishing its bloom and it was breathtaking this year!
Dave, if you are looking for trilliums and other woodland plants, you might want to check out the Inniswood plant sale this weekend. They usually have a lot of spring ephemerals, and many other unusual plants. And as CW said, Anderson's carries a great variety of woodland perennials.
Talk about being busy. Work is try'n ta kill me. 82 hours this week! Anyone just want to give me free cash? Lol...anyway thank God for roomies that weed and feed and mow and follow weeding directions. Yard looks like I have been working my a** off. However I do need to do more of the actual planting/design aspects that are starting to fall behind this month because of my hectic work schedual. As some of you have figured out, I work at Scotts. Oooooh! Yes, it is my part time job. Don't mind sharing the wealth within limits and as time permits. ;)
Found some of the rose varieties I have been looking for this week. chi ching. Found a wisteria that I want, already in bloom. "not cheap" to buy or not to buy THAT is the question. I will probably break down and do it today. I will then manage to place it where it will eat my house, garage or a tree. But what a way to go.

The Trillium is our Official Provincial Flower here but actually, they arent seen all that often. It is illegal to cut them or dig them up from their natural settings.
I have a small forest fringe behind my house but unfortunately there are no Trilliums there. sigh..
Welcome to DG I just joined last weekend, when I stumbled upon it in Google. What an amazing place it is. Friendly people with tons of information and assistance with plants, hardware, ponds, you name it !! Have fun and welcome aboard.
Hello CW, other Ohioans, fans and members of this site (Did I cover everyone? :-) ),
I just joined last week and I live in Dublin, Ohio. This is my first post and I am so glad to find this site. I am also new to gardening. Didn't start any serious planting until last year. But I am hooked!
Following the advice and recommendation from this forum, I went seeking alfalfa meal. I called a local feed store and almost gave the clerk a heart attack. Evidently I was the third one who called and asked for Alfalfa Meal. And the poor guy had no idea what Alfalfa Meal was. Fortunately he had the 50lb-bag pellet. My fellow Ohioans, you didn't happen to call "DJ's Feed" lately, did you? ;-p
I just want to say, Hello, everyone. Look forward to more discussion.
I stopped at DJ's Feed in Westerville a few weeks ago. They only had the alfalfa cubes available although they said they could get the meal or pellets in. Did you call the DJ's in Westerville? LOL
Welcome to Dave's Garden. Beware of becoming addicted!
Welcome drop - be sure to introduce yourself in a separate thread so everyone can say hello! :)
Oops, I didn't know I could. I see, "Welcome Mat" is an entire forum. I would start my own thread and say hello again :-p
Yes, NoH2O. DJ's at Westerville. The clerk jokingly protected, "Could you gardeners leave me alone?" I plan to go up there this Saturday. I would post here if I see some alfalfa pellets.
A big welcome to ceceoh and drop coming from the far east side. I know both of you will love it here!
Time for my stupidity level to go up, because I must be missing something. What is with the Alfalfa Meal? I scanned this thread 3 times trying to find out what the hype is, but I must be blind!

I'd never heard of it, either.
Just wanted to say welcome too from VA! I'm a newbie myself and this site is just awesome...already picked up several really good ideas and solutions to a few questions I had...
Candy and Kimberly,
Thank you for the links. Have either of you tried this "Tea"? I am willing to try anything to get my roses off to a good start. I have one rose that is doing absolutely nothing! It is just sitting there mocking me -- "HaHa, you went and bought me, planted me just like all the others in this little rose garden, but I am going to p--- you off, and not grow!" I am becoming a little perturbed with this little rose! I am going to see if I can find this alfalfa meal anywhere, and show this rosebush who's boss!
Dave
First of all, big "Hello" to Joshuatoo and kc8lcw!
And to the Central Ohio members, I did purchase alfalfa pellet from DJ's Feed Store today. DJ is located close to the corner of State and Main in Westerville. I bought a 50lb bag, the only size available. Like a big bag of dog food, fit in my trunk easily.
Are you whimpy about maggort? I know I am. Check this thread out: http://davesgarden.com/t/430365/alfalfa
So, I don't plan to brew alfalfa tea. Sorry. My roses just have to do without this goodie. Scratch in alfalfa pellet is as far as I would go.
