I got these plants yesterday and Charles Grimaldi was one of them...I repotted a bunch of things today.
Charles Grimaldi and Friends
Nice brug and that rose is a pretty one too.
Thanks, that is Madame Dore, a Bourbon Rose...

Looking good! Your brug should really take off now.
I was repotting this AM also Melvatoo. Is that one of those big carts shaped like a wheelbarrow? I have one that I couldn't live without. I mix my potting soil up in it. It probably holds 5 cu ft and I can go thru it in a day! I am thinking of buying one for the front also so I do not have to keep bringing it back and forth.
Yes, the cart is a present I got myself for my Birthday last year..I am thinking about getting another one too...I use it all the time and it moves so easily...
Melva: Nice looking brug! Will you please take a picture of the whole cart? I need something other than the wheelbarrow I occasionally borrow from the barn, but I can't decide what I want... Thank you! Gretchen
They sure are looking good! A Bourbon rose?now that is one I may have to try!
Your plants look very healthy, are thoes hypertufa planters in the background of your photo ?
Beautiful rose! The cart looks similar to one I just bought at Menard's (if you have those stores). It is made by Rubbermaid and holds 200 lbs. Got it for $14.99. I think it will be quite handy.
Great picture. I need to purchase me a couple of those carts.
Thats a cool looking cart -- I could use one of those, easily! Thanks for the picture!
I do not think I have seen one like this, has anyone seen the new style,it has a soft canvas type bottom, you can lay it down on the ground and roll rocks into it?
I just saw one like you are talking about in Charley's, I think. Cool idea, but it didn't look big enough for what I would want it for. Leaves, leaves, and more leaves. Lots of sticks too. LOL!
Walmart had a canvas version that I looked at. The price was right -- clearance for $12., but it wasn't big enough for me either...
I've got that cart. Much easier to handle than a wheelbarrow. I use it constantly. My DH even calls it my cart. they last for years. That was a great price on it too.
Bourbon roses don't smell like Bourbon, to me, they smell a lot better...Madame Dore is supposed to smell of fruit and ginger...that description of the fragrance got me, I had to try it, a plus is the fact that it is a gorgeous rose, and it smells good, not sure if it smells like fruit and ginger...but it is a nice smell!
The big pots seen in the background of my picture aren't hypertulfa, they are fiber pots, 15 gallons. I have them planted with Trees that I hope to put in, our new yard someday, and there are Roses in others. This will be the first summer for them, I wonder how they will last...years I hope.
Your brug cuttings are looking good.
The cuttings are good looking melvato!
For anyone interested: Bourbons are antique roses. "The Bourbon rose first appeared in the 1800s on the Isle of Bourbon (now Reunion) in the Indian Ocean. Bourbons bear large, full blooms that have a very heavy fragrance. They are extremely vigorous, producing shrubs that are big, wide, and very adaptable for training as pillar roses or on a fence. Most rebloom very reliably in colors that range from white to deep pink to scarlet. Bourbons are hardy to zone 4 and may survive colder climates with winter protection. Bourbons are occasionally subject to blackspot and mildew, which is not a major drawback because of the overall vigor of the shrub."
Thanks about the cuttings, most of them I potted up...I really thought I had lost most of them but they have come back from the roots. I do wonder sometime if I have room for another obssession in my life....I have been assured that I do, but that is coming from a person obssessed with roses and brugs.!
Wow, Kell! that's gorgeous! My favorite color of the moment!!!
I know what you mean, Kell I missed my first flush last year, I went to New Orleans to the ARS Conference...this year I will be home, which is exciting as there are so many things blooming.
I planted 6 David Austin roses last week. I hope they will do well for me. Our humidity can be a problem with roses. I love them anyway.
David Austin? What got to you Brugie? Those are currently my favorite!
Brugie: Which ones did you get. I had Mary Rose, The Prince, Evelyn and several others. The winter that we had snow cover for over 90 days smothered them. The only one I have left is The Pilgrim and one other that came back from the roots and doesn't bloom now. I love the old English roses.
I got: Heritage
Charlotte
Golden Celebration
Sweet Juliet
Kathryn Morley
Yves Piaget
They were so healthy...you wait and see, I'll kill them.
I bought Golden Celebration also this year. The pink poka dot description got to me. LOL
Do you order them or get them at a nursery? I got mine on sale from Parks and couldn't believe what great stock they were.
Melvato I got that cart last year and it is so great because you can push it or pull. I also mix my fertilizer in it and go from brug to brugs with it. It sure saves alot ofsteps and time being able to mix 25 gallons at a time.
Ours didnt survive the first winter. It was Heritage, Graham Thomas and a few others. They were buried under almost 3ft of snow for 5 months.
That would suffocate me too. It is bad enough having to look at the stuff for months on end.
I'm glad we don't have that much snow here. I'd go crazier than I am now having to stay inside and not drive in it. People here don't know how to drive in the snow and you'd best stay home or some idiot would wreck you. If it snows much here, it shuts down everything.
Now I'm really not happy. This just came to my Inbox from our local weather station:
Dear Shirley,A cool front is washing out across northern Iowa this morning. As it makes its way across the state, the only thing we will notice is a wind shift. Big changes are in the mix for the end of the week, and models are even hinting at snow in Iowa!
YUCK!
That is about all I could say too. I can't believe this and hope they aren't talking about my part of the state. I've got to go do some weather checking on one of the other sites. Maybe they can tell me something.
I just finished planting potatoes, onions, radishes, spinach, beets, kohlrabi, carrots, and have to do the cabbage plants and I'll be done with gardening until the soil stays really warm.
Just checked the long range weather and it looks like a low of 32 on Friday night with showers on Sat. and then it starts warming up again. I think maybe the snow will be up north. Whew!!

Oh Shirley, I know how anxious you are for warmer weather! I'll be happy to get some sunshine... Here's hoping that you stay above freezing! Gretchen
Wow, Shirley, you've been busy. I took the tractor to the garden and plowed it again. Now it's ready for seeds and I watered all those plants and pulled some grass and wild onions out of some of the beds. I planted a bush that someone sent me and put my Chocolate vine back in the ground. I sure hope we have no more freezes. It's supposed to be about 75 tomorrow so I plan on working outside all day.
Wow Ada: You too have been busy!
