Digging with permission - again!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok, ya'll know I am a scavenger at heart. Any chance I get to dig at abandoned properties, I jump for joy. Nothing better than free goodies. :) Some of you also remember my thread titled, "A brush with the law", yes? If not, check it out here.

Well, here's another story...

I got permission to dig at another property today. It was so funny, though, as I called one guy, Craig (I thought he was the one who owned the property), who gave me the phone number of another guy, Bill. Bill called me and said I could dig, but he wanted to be there for liability reasons. He said he was at the property this evening, did I want to come by tonight. I said I'd be there in 5 min. I snatched up the girls and a couple of shovels and off we went.

When we got there, he was on one side of a fence and I was on another. Apparently he owned the property next to the one I was thinking of. Craig had said that Bill's property was in front of his. Well, as it turns out, there are two properties that fit that description. Miscommunication.

Anyway, Bill said he knew the guy who owned the property I wanted to dig on and that he wouldn't care if I dug up whatever I wanted. It was going to be bulldozed anyway. He just didn't "legally" give me permission (such as if I were to get hurt or something). Well, as he was walking away, he said he was leaving before the cops showed up. Ha. Ha. Little did he know of my history just three properties down the street.

I didn't dare open my mouth.

So did you get out of there without the cops? LOL....And what did you dig?

I dug three large trash bags full of irises and one large bag of an unknown bulb - very large. They are easily 3" across. Wide foliage, too. I'll try to post pics tomorrow in the ID forum. I barely scratched the surface, though. There are twice as many irises there and daylilies, too. I can't get the trees, but there is a red bud, bradford pear and lots of other trees/shrubs.

The one thing I didn't get (and thankfully so) were police officers. :)

My former SIL that I grew up next door to was a great scavenger. She especially looked for discarded building supplies to use to refurbish their house.

My former husband was building a room onto our house and taking a lot of time doing it, when he had time and money for materials. This had been going on for several years. The next step was insulation for the ceiling.

My SIL ran up to my house and said, "Come on, they're building a school and have been putting in the insulation sheeting. When they got to the end of the roof, they just cut off the extra and left it on the ground. They're finished with the roof. Let's go get it before they just throw it away."

We tore off in my brother's truck and were able to collect more than enough to insulate our ceiling. I was scared to death someone would come by and call the cops, but apparently no one did!

She was always taking risks like that. Completely remodeled their house with castoff materials! She was a lot of fun!
