Fertilizing large flowering trees

I have several large Yoshino and Kwanzan cherries, as well as dogwood, flowering crabapples, redbuds, and a variety of different kinds of fruit trees. How do you fertilize these trees, and how do you know how much to use?

If these trees are large, healthy and growing normally, why fertilize at all?

Thanks for your answer. We have never fertilized them before, but we were thinking maybe they need it-just to keep them healthy. Who knows?
