magnolia tree cutting?

we just moved into home that has magnolia tree in backyard- it needs to be trimmed up some and i am wondering if i can put a cutting in rootone and perhaps get another plant
anyone have the answer????

Magnolia: Time and success variable with species. Softwood cuttings, June-July. Seed: clean, sow outdoors in fall. Keep seed moist until planted.
