Wow, Darius, that is an awesome color!

Clare_CA it is not the maturity that makes the flower larger it it is the different types. I have 3 white one has a 3 inch bloom, one a 4-5 inch bloom and one with a 11 inch bloom. I have had them around 10 years also. I do get a few blooms a year. I really need to fertilize more. I just traded some of my cuttings for some different colors this year. I am excited because here we find only white and that is few and far between.

I love my epis. Can't wait to possibly trade for more colors and sizes of blooms.

Thanks, Sandy! That is good to know! I got a white one from Logee's not too long ago. I hope it is an 11-inch one! Here's what Logee's says about it:

"Pure white flowers, the size of a dinner plate, open as soon as the sun goes down and stay open all night, closing in the morning."

By the way, Logee's has some colored ones too: http://www.logees.com/store/

Bumping this thread up.

It seems to me that the Epis I leave outside (and we get around 150" of rain a year) bloom almost all year round...and those in the greenhouse are more reluctant... My 2cents for what it's worth... :~{)

That would be great AlohaHoya as I haven't covered mine this year. I have had most 6 years+ and they still bloom just a few blooms a year.

I have only had epis for 3 years this coming up spring (2005). The first was a red that I do not know the name of. A neighbor shared a handfull of cuttings with my grandma (summer 2002) and I ended up with the pot. The following spring(2003) the plant had grown quite a bit but only made a few blooms. I overwintered it in the gh and brought it back out this past spring to go under the eve of the back deck. There it gets full morning sun and bright indirect light the rest of the day. The plant was almost 9ft long when I put it out and bloomed almost 100 flowers. Some days having 25-30 open at one time. I did have some nice pics of it but when I had to do a recovery on my computer all phots got lost so I will have to get new ones come spring.
I now have 28 varieties of epis though I don't know if any of them will be of blooming size this year. With the exception of the red and possibly a yellow no name.

catsmeow,
if you ever take cuttings I would love to trade. I don't care about names. I just would love an assortment of colors. I know I don't have yellow.
Thanks,
Sandy

Catsmeow, I can't wait to see your photos. I bet the display is just amazing. Did your plants continue to grow in the greenhouse? Or did they experience low temperatures and go dormant? Thanks in advance.

You mean there's hope for mine. I have about 15 epis for about 3-4 years and not a bloom or much growth on them. I moved them from almost total shade to a west exposure and they are putting on new growth. I'm keeping my fingers cross because I was getting ready to chuck them. I guess I will give them some more time in the new location and see what happens.
